Will I melt the North Pole

For decades I raced from Annapolis to Washington at top speed to get to work. Six gallons a day for --- lots of gas.

Now, I feel guilty, but still I jacked up the A/F ratio five clicks because the car just runs better with more gas.

How bad is it. I have historic tags so I never go to the emiss. station but _ as I understand it- the M 20 is a sealed motor so the blow-by gets burnt up and my emiss. are clean.

The '89 325is has the original cat with straight pipes clamped to the back. But the '87 325is had a pirate exhaust when I got it - just a small muffler.

Both cars have been brought back from near death and run great if a bit cosmetically challenged. A cat for the '87 costs big money - a test of my environmentalism -

I can go to the emiss. station and get a reading but what am I looking for

If you feel that bad about it, maybe you should try hooking a kite up to it.

At last we have found the root cause of climate change: You, your BMWs and the Annapolis to DC commute are to blame!

Can I send you an invoice for the property damage I suffered due to Hurricane Sandy?

Yes, you will be the one guilty of melting the north polar ice cap, depriving the polar bears of their habitat, and causing uncountable death and destruction.

On the upside, your efforts will result in D.C. being underwater, so it's not all bad.

Seriously, the car may run better with the mods, but that is likely because it is masking other issues - like the need for a good tune-up or something more serious. I have to wonder if the car without the cat still has its full compliment of O2 sensors and the other mods to have the ECU work properly.

I guess my small fraction of hydrocarbons from running a diesel truck, Porsche 944, and a Mustang GT won't ultimately make much of a difference over a lithium batteried hybrid (research how they mine that lithium, and tell me it's better for the environment).

Yes...the fact that you have two 325is's is the root of the worlds weather problems. Only solution is to sell me one to restore balance....asap.

I don't care for 3 reasons

1
I'm convinced we can't f over nature, if we as a species get to buck wild, nature will sort us out and bring back balance. Personally i would welcome such a move, since mankind has proven itself to be unworthy.

2
I don't have kids, so i don't care if the planet is fuched for future generations, I have no vested interest.

3
Since I do not have kids, I am obviously not part of the problem.
Sure i may burn some fuel in my life time, but the amount of energy I use pales in comparison to the energy I save down the line: not having little bastards is a MASSIVE energy saving.
Smaller house, less heating, less hamburgers, less clothes, less consumption of Everything.
And then they don't need drivers licenses, never drive cars, never pollute , never produce any human waste whatsoever.

That is my contribution to the problem at hand.
And think of the kids my kids would have and then those kids' kids.

Whenever any treehugging hippy tells me my car kills the planet, I point to his kids and say : Those are worse... YOU are the problem.

Svandamme I just don't see any joy in your post regarding your outlook, kids or no kids.

As regards burning gas then I see many electric cars in the future. Sure producing electricity can be generated from coal but there are other ways of producing it.

The particulates from burning oil and gas are the problem for the environment and our bodies. Changes are coming......

Sorry bout that, apologies for not putting it in green.
Don't worry about it, things will get better once we hit 10 billion people on the planet.

Economy of scale and what not will kick in and everything will become cheaper.

For the past 30 years or so, certain groups have been brain-washing people into believing that their insignificant actions are ruining the world.

Some brains require less soap than others, the world is much tougher than we are.

Any time they figure out how to measure something global seems the human race is causing a problem with it!

The rotation of the earth is slowing down and it is because we must be building too many tall buildings!!!

Not sure what you count as "big money," but you can buy an EPA compliant cat for that car brand new for $80.

Global warming, rising sea levels , retreating rain forests, mass animal die-offs, ZIKA virus mosquitos, are all manufactured by "save the planet" groups as a scare tactic to raise money to give themselves jobs, to fight said crimes....a self feeding cycle.
