I took my 243,000 mile 996 to the Drag Strip.
I wanted to find out how close I could get Apollo 911 to the original quarter mile time reported by Car and Driver when it was new. Unfortunately I suck at drag strip driving, but managed a decent time.

Cool vid!
I love the IMS drinking game! Although I'm not a big fan of 996's, I sure hope yours lasts another 243k. |

The IMS probably won't fail driven like that. I thought it was all those girly man driven ones that fail.

Funny stuff. I was quite surprised at how great a 996 drives, they are one of the best sportscar buys out there assuming you don't have IMS problems

what form made all the IMS comments?
14.0 is a pretty solid time for that car- with a few extra passes you will be in the 13's- hard to beat that for a stocker old 911 |

Just before I bought my 2001 Boxster I did a test drive on a ' 99 996. It drove well but needed tires. He wanted $20k can and it had 100k miles. I ended up buying the Boxster which ended up having engine problems but not ims specifically. In hindsight the 996 would have been a good buy. It was faster than the Boxster but did not feel so sporty.
Your video is an inspiration for the old water cooled 911. Who knows if a 996 would have fared any better through three Canadian winters. As regards ims failure then it was not unusual to hear about the failures in the forums. The 986 forum had a poll on engine failures for the Boxsters. I am sure there must be a poll somewhere on a 911 forum..... I would think the results would have been similar because the engine design was the same even though there was a range of engine sizes. |

Love the IMS drinking game
I think it is obvious that the car is up for a well documented trackday

Great video! Especially the IMS drinking game! As a fresh 986 Boxster owner, I can relate...

Great video and I agree with aschen, a DE day with the Porsche Club would be the ideal next video!
