My guess is he's married.

One production line of car to cover left hand drive and right hand drive countries.

So that's how you make the rear seats "functional"...

Poor man's Mclaren ?

Gogar 11-30-2016 02:42 PM

My only guess is that the owner had some physical issue that made this more comfortable.

Maybe the spot on the left is where you stow the wheelchair or something.

Bill Douglas 11-30-2016 03:01 PM

No girlfriend to drive around with.

I've seen that too, and I don't get it either.

At least it wasn't an air-cooled that he hacked up.

Nope. Not handicapped. Just a hack...

Porsche 911 gets McLaren-inspired central driver's seat

Gogar 11-30-2016 03:18 PM

Huh. Well, handicapped, just in a different way I suppose. :)

It's certainly interesting and there's lots of foot room with no offset to the pedals.

But I would have scaled down the side (central) column for balance.

What I have thought about is moving my 911 shifter from central to right of the drivers seat (RHD).... 917 style.
Easy enough to do with a cable shift setup but getting in and out would be a pain.

That is brilliant.
Needs a seat slide, rotation to the outside, overhead pulleys with straps/hooks, and remote door pull.

speeder 11-30-2016 08:51 PM

Maybe he wanted to have two blind spots w the top up.

Technically speaking, this Porsche still has its rear plus-two seats, making it something of a McLaren F1 homage. But unlike the famed Macca, the placement of the driver’s seat and the center right-mounted console largely leg-blocks the rear seat passengers, leaving the back better suited for amputees and small-to-medium-sized dogs.
Did the author mean McLaren and not Macca?

Is that some unofficial nickname.

Tervuren 12-01-2016 11:00 PM

Maybe less wind in his hair with the top down?
