My only guess is that the owner had some physical issue that made this more comfortable.

Maybe the spot on the left is where you stow the wheelchair or something.

It's certainly interesting and there's lots of foot room with no offset to the pedals.

But I would have scaled down the side (central) column for balance.

What I have thought about is moving my 911 shifter from central to right of the drivers seat (RHD).... 917 style.
Easy enough to do with a cable shift setup but getting in and out would be a pain.

Needs a seat slide, rotation to the outside, overhead pulleys with straps/hooks, and remote door pull.
