Honda Ridgeline

Anyone have a Honda Ridgeline pickup? I am looking at a 2008 with 112000 miles. Will use to pull a 21 foot boat etc. Are they a good vehicle, do they have a timing chain or belt, any quirks noticed?

Thanks

21ft boat? You are going to want a bigger truck than a ridge line.

We have a 2012 Ridgeline and pull a 21 foot Larson with no issues......The ridgeline has a great ride and the wife loves. Yes our 7.3 F250 pulls it better but we are happy with the choice.

Those Ridgelines are awesome vehicles, (as are all Hondas, IMO), and will tow pretty well up to their listed capacity. AFAIK, no one else makes a direct competition to that truck.

They might be great trucks, I really don't know but DANG they are ugly. They make any other truck look good. A Pontiac Aztec looks like a Aston Martin compered to a Ridgeline.

Just my opinion. If you are driving it you don't have to look at it.

The ridgeline was developed off the honda pilot which is a CAR.
Hopefully they changed a few things.

We had a honda pilot. I towed our waverunners with it.
Bad move.
The rear electronic differential is NOT sealed or as least not vented high enough.
Launching the waverunner filled the rear diff with water causing it to fail.

Something honda was reluctant to warranty. They told me never to get the rear wheels wet again or it would not be under warranty the next time.
That’s the same differential you have to change the oil in every year and the special oil costs $80 a gallon!

Like i said, I hope they changed some things.

I personally would NOT consider a honda, any honda for towing a boat.

How much oil does the diff take? Normal GL5 80/90, (not synthetic), runs about $10 a liter and my Benz takes about a liter. So if it was double the price, ($80 gallon), it wouldn't be a big deal every 60k miles or whatever the interval is.

If it is a venting issue wrt water ingress, it sounds like something that could be modded/rerouted for submersion boat launches. Most boat launches don't require the tow vehicle to go in the water, though. Just the trailer, usually.

You're gonna need a smaller boat. Maybe not, but how often do you get to say that?

IMHO, the old Ridgeline looks like a gem, compared to the new Ridgeline. the new one is so ugly!! i've seen two in real life. i dont think they are selling that well.

I used to ramp launch a fixed keel sailboat, and to keep my Cherokee from becoming a submarine, I had the trailer modded with a telescoping tongue extension. Even with my boat's 4' draft, I never got my Cherokee wet.

IIRC it was $100 every 15,000 miles (normal driving conditions), or 7500 miles under extreme conditions or where the electronic 4 wheel drive is often used.

It was special oil that was only available from honda at that time.

Looks like it's available other places now, amazon has it at $12 per quart.

Plus $5 for the non re-usable washer.

I understand that it's a unibody, lighter duty truck. Bit that's not all bad, depending on your needs. And this is coming from a guy w a 4x4 F-250 diesel, a *real truck*. My real truck will tow a lot more but it's also 7500 lbs., (empty), to haul around town and a bich to park in the city. I love it for what it is but I don't enjoy using it as normal transportation, so I don't.

If I had one of those Ridgelines, I'd probably drive it more as a car. It's all about a person's needs, anyways. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to trucks.
