My daughters artwork - some car based..

Hi Guys, just thought I would post a couple of samples of my daughters artwork. She produced this homage to Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker. Also, she likes Lambos and McLarens :). She would like to pursue a career in graphic novel art, what do you think?

Here is a Superman image too:

Wow!! She is an awesome artist!

She should pursue it - she's good! Does she have an Instagram account?

At some point is a hand, a pen and perhaps a paintbrush involved, or is this all done on computer?

Looks great either way.

So are those photos that get tweaked in software to look like drawings?

Really good work, the eyes just draw you in.
Strong talent, hope she find an opportunity to continue with her remarkable creations.

Cheers Richard

Hi, she uses a graphics tablet to draw her images in the same way you would with a pencil, pen or brush. Once the image is in the computer she can then start to work on the colours (colors :)) and textures. However, she can draw too - it is what she studied at college.

Thanks for the compliment!

No, definitely not. She draws every single component of her work. She wouldn't have it any other way :). She might use a photo for reference - but then you would need too when trying to get a close likeness, but the photo is never imported and 'tweaked'.

What I like about that method (never done it myself) is that the colors look like transparent film but with a watercolor character.

If I were try to get that same character with watercolor or gouache, I would run into paper texture issues, chroma issues and then have it fail me upon scanning which washes out any intended intensity and screws up the delicate thin parts as well.

I do things by hand, but have a cell phone with a pen/stylus to sketch out ideas quickly. I don't take advantage of 90% of it's features. Some people do convincing work just on their cell phones, it's amazing what can be done these days.

Looks great, hope she finds her path in life. One that pays enough to live on.

Oh WOW! Seriously, WOW!!!!!

Is it possible to purchase a copy of the Paul Walker tribute? Not sure what format it is, etc. But I know a young man who would really love that for Christmas.

Outstanding. Shows some range in abilities between the Walker panels and the Manga Seinen style of Superman...

Fantastic work. She's got all the talent before she even starts in the career, IMO!

well i'm no artist but this is some of the most amazing talent I've seen shared here on Pelican.

as Rika said, 'oh my'. you click on this thread thinking 'i'm sure i'll find some positives to note' and then you see the work....wow.

berettafan 12-09-2016 08:35 AM

in todays world i wonder what's the best route to leverage skills like that? surely some publishing house would hire her but does that put your talents under their umbrella or are you free to pursue side work like blogs and such.

Just plain awesome!
