Of course, the local press doesn't seem to know.

Yep, they're just another DeLorean, Bricklin, or Tesla, except without an actual product.

Oh crap. They're plan is to produce self-driving electric cars as a service. I'm sure the "synergy" of combining three unsuccessful business models will make them immensely profitable.

My prediction is that they collect many times the promised incentives while never delivering a single car.

They’ve got a huge order in hand for Amazon delivery vehicles, and have started production on trucks, and testing on SUVs, they are hardly the vaporware car company that this thread tried to portray them to be.

Watch “Long way up” with Ewan and Charlie. The support team drove Rivians from the tip of South America to LA.

I hope Rivian crushes their markets. If reliability and access to repairs were not big question marks, I'd have money down.

Know Rivian fairly well. I've had a reservation for the truck for about 16 months now. They did a big press event in Colorado about a month ago and invited a metric **** ton of car journalists. Dozen or so video reviews of the truck sprung from this event. All were moderately positive to outright gushing. This one from Kelly Blue Book is one of the better ones:

My take is this thing is a cross between a sports car and a Jeep Gladiator. Skateboard platform construction, 900-ish hp, quad motor, 315 mile range, 11,500 lbs. towing capacity with really good off-road capabilities right off the showroom floor. And 0-60 in 3 seconds with near luxury interior.

The thing that is really amazing to me is how refined this thing appears to be from a brand new company making their first car. It's not perfect, but really well thought out. Both Ford and Amazon are big investors. IPO next month. Hope to get a ride next month as I will be close enough to visit the factory for a few hours.

Didn't anyone notice that the passengers on the last Bezos Rocket Blast Off were transported to the rocket in Rivian trucks? I figured Bezos must have some stick or intrest in the company.

For Jeff I think the fact they are electric and not from Tesla was enough for him.

Correct. Rivian is supposed to deliver 100k vans to them.

The plant is an old Mitsubishi (DiamondStar) plant in central Illinois. Normal, IL to be specific. Trucks are starting to pop up around town and local real estate prices have arisen from a slumber there too.

Rivian has a very pro-environment stance. They are actually donating 1% of the equity in the firm take to a nature conservancy foundation. There are also putting charging stations in otherwise remote locations. Think Moab, Yosemite, etc.
