Do you like it when people mispronounce your name?
Why do we call a Ford, a Ford??? Because it was/is the last name of the founder of the company so we pronounce it the way he did. the same thing applies here. "Dr. Porsche" was the man who founded the company so the company name is (correctly) pronounced the same way his family name is pronounced. To pronounce it any other way is ignorant and disrespectful to the family name. To put it another way, anyone who is too stupid to pronounce it correctly, is too stupid to own one. They should sell it and buy a buy a Jeep. At least they can't disrespect the name of the founder of the company.

so a guy hard on his luck shows up at a house asking for work. The owner says I'll give you $100 for painting the porch. Guy comes back about an hour later and says he's done. The owner is surprised and asked how he got done so quickly . The guy says, " well it wasn't a porch it was a Mercedes". Badda boom

I've noticed when watching European coverage of racing:
Porsche has two syllables. Jaguar has three syllables. When I listen very carefully, Ferrari has four!

When someone asks my last name I just spell it. Nobody pronounces or spells it right.

It's simply an abbreviation, lighten up. I don't think "Dr. Porsche" is hurting from the disrespect.

I'm on my 4th Porsch, and I agree with you on this. Plus I don't like to be called stupid over something like this.

So...if Porsche is pronounced Paw shuh, then how do you pronounce that psychedelic cloth they used in the interiors in the late 70's, spelled pasha.

Why? Because there are standard phonetics that anyone that knows them will look at my last name and use by default. Provided the letters can make the pronunciation, I do not care. It is a German last name, and it does have a proper German pronunciation that would change it from how I, or most others use it. I am in the USA, not Germany. *shrug*.

^^^^^exactly ^^^^^^^ I tell people - who continually mispronounce the name ".....well a 'Porsh' is what's on the front of my house where we watch the sunset with a few adult beverages". However, if you're referred to my 911, I'll be doing some maintenance this weekend.................. on my Porsche........

My parents and older brother were from Germany . I was born in the US . My brother while in the service bought a 1969 Porsche 912 . It was my introduction into the P world .
My dad told me the proper pronunciation was Porsh-uh . My brother said the same thing . They both stated it was pronounced that way because the family name was pronounced that way . Right or wrong that's how I pronounced it . I have a very German last name that is pronounced wrong 90 % of the time 😔 . So I get it . No reason to get upset , I just correct people and move on . There are bigger problems to get upset over . |
