RIP Debbie Reynolds

Just heard on the news. One day after losing her daughter. She was 84.

2016 can't end soon enough.

Waiting for further confirmations but it was broadcast on my local ABC news station.

Todd fisher, Debbie's son and Carrie's brother, said the his mother missed Carrie so badly, she told him she just wanted to be with her.

Horrible news for the Fisher family. This is now bordering on the bizarre, guess a weak heart can't handle the stress of losing someone close.

Recorded in 1957 (when Debbie Reynolds was 23 years old) for the film "Tammy and the Bachelor," the song earned her a gold record and was the best-selling single by a female vocalist in 1957. The song spent 23 weeks on the "Top 40" charts. It was number one for five weeks on the Billboard pop charts. The song was nominated for a "Best Song" Academy Award in 1957, but lost to "All The Way" from the film, "The Joker Is Wild."

In the movie (the first of the Tammy film series, and the only one Debbie Reynolds starred in), she co-starred with Leslie Nielsen.

At the time "Tammy and the Bachelor" was filmed, Debbie Reynolds was still married to Eddie Fisher. Less than a year later, Eddie Fisher began his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher were divorced in 1959.

In the film, as she sings the song, she's interrupted by her Aunt Renie (played by Mildred Natwick.) For this video, I deleted that part, and spliced in scenes between Debbie Reynolds and Leslie Nielsen, and overlayed the soundtrack with a clean audio.

Tammy
(Jay Livingston and Ray Evans)

I hear the cottonwoods whisperin'' above
"Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!"
The ole hootie owl hootie-hoos to the dove,
"Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!"

Does my lover feel
what I feel
When he comes near?
My heart beats so joyfully
You'd think that he could hear!

Wish I knew
if he knew
what I'm dreamin' of!

Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!

Whippoorwill, whippoorwill, you and I know
Tammy, Tammy,
can't let him go!
The breeze from the bayou keeps murmuring low,
"Tammy, Tammy, you love him so!"

When the night is warm, soft and warm
I long for his charms
I'd sing like a violin
If I were in his arms

Wish I knew
if he knew
what I'm dreamin' of!

Tammy! Tammy! Tammy's in love!

How difficult this must be to the Fisher family right now.

Rest In Peace and together again with Carrie.

OH not Debbie Renolds, I had my first big crush on her Tammy in Tammy and the Batchlor, big crush.
I still remember feeing funny after seeing that movie. I was around 7 years old at the time, we went to the drive in and the whole family was giving me a hard time on the drive home, for my crush.

She remained special to me from then on.

RIP Debbie.

Was at Rogue One with my daughter when my wife sent me the text informing me of her passing. Carrie Fishers' image was on the screen a few minutes later, "You give us hope" was her line.

I can't imagine having my child precede me in death. Dying of a broken heart, indeed.

Here we are two days later and already this is old news and we have moved on to something new.

So we stand around with our hands in pockets, heads bowed, stamp our feet while saying, "What a shame" right before we put it out of our minds and move on...

Say goodbye Tammy you are already forgotten.

But her performances and legacy will live on. She will never fade into obscurity, unlike most of us.

News cycles are like that, Tabby. For example...days before a scheduled execution, there are TV cameras outside the prison, long panel discussions about the death penalty. Footage of the protestors...all of it.

Then, the execution takes place as scheduled, and the news cycle returns to it's usual disgusting pattern.

Yep, kinda like that...

But...I'm not likely to forget Debbie Reynolds and other 50's and 60's celebs who have passed. I thank them for the entertainments provided...
