Video Playback Help Needed

I have a dvd with a video that was created from an old 16mm film. The files on the DVD are shown here. What do I need to have on my computer to play this video? Is something important missing?

Looks like the VLC media player icon.

Open VLC and drag the folder onto it would be the easiest.

Can you right click on the DVD icon and select "Play"?

Are you trying to play the DVD or play the files from the DVD?

If you are trying to play the DVD, then Windows Media Player should work, or VLC or any app that will play a DVD.

Do you want to have just the files on your PC to play without the DVD?

If so, then your best bet would be to download Handbrake, and rip the DVD to a single MP4 file. If you want to do that, I can provide a little more direction if you don't want to try to figure it out.

It's meant to put in a DVD player.

So, whatever method you have used in the past (if you have)

to play a DVD on your computer,

Do that.

I have Mac and don't have Windows Media Player. I'll take it home and stick it in the the DVD player and see what happens. Thanks!

There's an app in "applications" called "DVD Player." See if you have it

FWIW if it's something you want to add to itunes or play on your phone / tablet then Handbrake.

Yes, the Mac is usually pretty good about finding an appropriate app. for whatever file you are trying to open. I had to open DVD player manually and point it to the folder the video was in. After that it was gravy.

If you want it to automatically play CDs (or DVDs) go to

System Preferences > CDs and DVDs

And select your options there.
