R.I.P. JP Stein - longtime pelican forum member

Saw this in the death fairy thread and thought it deserved it's own thread.

Never met the man but I did enjoy his posts and was especially inspired by his recuperation efforts and positive spirit post stroke.

Sail on my friend.....see you on the other side.....SmileWavy

Very Sorry to hear of JP's passing. Never met him but,he spent many hours on the phone with me when I was doing my 914/6 conversion. Always willing to help and offer assistance. I mailed him my shifter bar, he had the Jig and made the conversion bar for me at no charge. He was a great guy and offered lots of help to many on this board as well as the various 914 boards. Again sorry to hear of his passing. RIP my friend.

vash 01-17-2017 10:15 AM

So sorry to hear that. I remember JP going back to the mid/late 90s in the 914 world.

RIP, JP, you will be missed.

pete3799 01-17-2017 11:14 AM

My condolences as well. Enjoyed his posts.

sammyg2 01-17-2017 11:28 AM

Very sad.
JP and I hung out on a 914 club forum and chat thingy a long time ago, that's where he taught me to speel.

I knew his health was declining but i had hoped he had many more years left.
I'll miss him.

Yellow Porsches are faster.

berettafan 01-17-2017 11:37 AM

Very sad. A longtime Pelican who truly owned his Porsche. God bless his family.

pwd72s 01-17-2017 11:54 AM

JP gave me the pennies after I mentioned I needed some for my cue joint protectors. He didn't know what joint protectors were, so sent the pennies in order to find out. On the billiards board they are referred to as "JPs"...

Another memory....thanks JP.

Pelicans are supposed to live forever...but alas, reality eventually touches us all. Rest peacefully JP. If there's a Pelican on the other side, perhaps we'll cross paths again.

A loss to the forum for sure.

I did sell it on evilbay for 29K. Lost money on the deal.
The initial goal was modest.....get it to ride & handle as well as my 05 Tacoma. Not successful......the rear suspension was hopeless. Another $4k or so might have fixed it but I was at the end of my rope.

Among inherent problems (50 year old engineering & assembly) the ride & handling was obscene. Couple that with indifferent POs and the hammer mechanics that practiced in all aspects of the car, I had my hands full.....the decent cosmetics from 15 feet were only skin deep to boot.

My $23K purchase grew exponentially......my recent fire didn't help the balance sheet. Even with the insurance, my personal investment is gonna reach $40 K.

Getting that much out of it is problematical....but it could happen, ( more likely is a 5-10K loss) due to a couple factors. GT350s are already out of sight and , tho its not a clone, FBs are already in short supply & when I'm done, it will blow a GT350 into the weeds in all aspects.....except charisma. Convertibles are about neck & neck in current pricing......I can speak only for myself, but I wouldn't have a convertable.

My advice is to put your money in safe investments then sit on your ass and wait to die.;)

BTW, the overseas market for the early Mustang....if not hot, at least lively , tho the recent dump in the Euro may have an effect....take a pass from those from Nigeria.

Brad posted a couple days ago on Facebook of his passing. I first met him on Brads chat room on IRC prior to 914.com being set up. A funny and smart individual. He will be missed.

Not only have we lost a fun frequent contributor, a good part of our community.

Well done J P.
