the BEST hunting season I've ever had...

is coming close to a close. I've been out of state hunting EVERY weekend since the beginning of November. My 2 partners have grown up together and work well together in the field. I'd like to think it was my innate ability with animals...but they've pretty much trained themselves! A few pics:

That is totally cool!....love the two partners! Having been with each other from day one it must be a real treat watching them work together? Is he/she a falcon or hawk?

Thanks for sharing!

....and what Amail said!

Siberian Goshawk...short wings, long tail...they are forest hunters. In nobility times goshawks were considered "The Cook's Hawk" because they can take fur or feather. Hawks will often fly ground quarry (dirt hawking) vs. falcons who stoop on birds flying. Goshawks by nature are VERY MEAN!!! She has attacked me when she has missed a number of times in a row out in the field. The only way to keep their heads on straight is to hunt them as much as possible and let them take out that aggression on game. This is my 1st imprint (raising a bird imprinted to me) vs. a trapped bird.

Making the mistake of opening her box without holding tight to the leash...Yes, that's ALL my blood from my face!!!

^^^Wow, what a beauty! But......ya, be careful around her. You should also wear eye protection out in the field while hunting Jim. Ask me how I know.....Optometrist here and I've seen many hunters with eye injuries.....don't mean to lecture you but just passing on my experience to you!

Lowyder, is the dog pointing the bird, you flush and goshawk kills pheasant? Would love to know what you are doing there. Looks seriously cool. We have had one of the best bird seasons, quail and pheasant, I have seen in years in north central Oklahoma

He's just learning to hold point at 10 months. He will mainly flush rabbits...only pointed 1. His job is to keep rabbits running after a miss...BUT should the hawk connect, his job turns to protector. The hawk can't fly up into a tree with a 5 lb. jack, so she sits on the ground. While she's there she is vulnerable to other predators. He will stick close by till I get there...BTW, some of these chases are 3-500 yds...my fat azz ain't makin it there anytime soon!

What a cool set up low. I would love to see that whole operation between dog and bird unfold. Good looking pup BTW. Thanks for the post.

Had an abundance of local urban wildlife last year:

Encroaching deer near downtown.
1-2 car strikes per year in wide 35mph zones. Oh the horror of stupid drivers downtown.
Tulips and many shrubs eaten. Mine included. Basterdz.
My dog chased a doe and fawn over a 6ft fence midday in a park.
City decided to cull with own specialists. Many were against with yard signs.
Whatever. No skin here.
I once saw a beautiful big 10-12 pt buck stroll boldly down my sidewalk at 2am. Majestic. He looked over at me on the porch and didn't care.

Also seen lots of rabbits last year.
Up to 4-5 around a couple blocks of dog walking.
My cat brought two rabbit 'kittens' into the house and presented them as gifts.
He was bummed when I put it outside with a bag of lettuce and carrots.
Playmate lost. He pouted and was depressed for a week and more.
Then all the neighborhood rabbits suddenly disappeared entirely this year. Wut?

I almost feel more manly just by association with such a cool hunting team.

Thanks for the glimps into the hunting history that you are maintaining .

Love the pics. Well except for the blood splatter one, would have been easier to see not know ing the story, yikes.

Cool learning the traits of the different types of birds.

Cheers Richard

This is beyond cool! You need a gopro to film this so we can watch those two work in the field!

Maybe because I have a Nest Cam acc't also? The link doesn't let me sign in...it takes me directly to my Cams (which are active)
Has to be something on my set-up doing it.

Nest used to be drop-cam.
It's not sharing personal videos....It shows mine to me, instead of seeing his link. Not sure why.
