Used Prius in the UK are snapped up by taxi drivers, so the resale is very high. They then resurface with 2-300K miles on them. Toyota also do the Auris as a hatchback or a Station Wagon(maybe called Corolla in the US) as a hybrid(same drivetrain as Prius and Lexus CT200h) and some taxi drivers are using the Wagon as they are cheaper than Prius.
Volt are rare here, only 2.5K were ever sold in the UK

We have had ours since '05 and it has just about 120k miles on it.
This is a concern for sure. She regularly hails the boys and they are getting to the age of always going to this event of that event.

Keep the input coming guys. I need to take her to drive both I think, and I still need to see if there are any tax credits or HOV plates left in AZ.

In that case the Prius might be a better choice. The Volt claims to be a 5 passenger car, but fitting 3 in the back seat is a stretch because the center position is more of a jump seat. It also has less cargo space behind the rear seat than a Prius. We love our Volts, but I can't see using them as a kid haulers.
I don't know if the Prius is eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit (the Volt is).

Also, the Ampera (Volt) has "Opel-quality".

As an aside , the 1st episode of the new 'Top gear' remake on Amazon prime think it's called grand touring or something like that. Anyway it features two supercars, a Porsche and a McLaren I think said to have evolved from prius technology I found it interesting considering the abuse the prius takes on most Car forums
