Feeding fish on vacation. Machine or pellets?

My daughter got a fish this year, and we are going to be out of town for a week. Its a single goldfish. Any insights on the best way to feed? I think we are going to be expanding soon, so I was leaning towards getting an automatic machine.

Any advice appreciated.

Generally make sure you don't overfeed the fish. A week is stretching it, but if you are out for a long weekend, don't even worry about feeding it.

I bought this years back and it works very well. Make sure you set it so it doesn't dump too much at a time.

Cheers,

G

I would tell my pet store customers to not feed. Even if they had a house sitter. One week is nothing to a fish.

How can you tell when they are on vacation? Do they wear tacky Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts?

Folks like you who suggest and do crap like that are a great disservice to true service animals imo

.....but a seeing-eye guide fish would be fine

Maybe not applicable to a home aquarium, but I stop feeding the fish in our 2000 gallon pond when the temp gets down to 55 degrees. Their metabolism slows at low temps and they don't need to eat. So maybe all you need to do is turn the thermostat down.
If you're driving, and heading west, drop the fish tank off here and I'll take care of the little guy. I'm 3 miles off of I-70.

I've got 8 tanks so I don't get to go on vacation

either don't feed or else put some floating plants in that the fish can graze on. Hopefully your LFS has something

Best thing you can do for a week is leave him alone.
He’ll be just fine.
