Question for you guyz who spend a go-zillion a year on shaving, or are saving that much every month:
How many shaves do you get out of a razor? You are saving more than I ever spent. |
You can take my man card away, but I tried my girlfriend's Venus razor a few months back and the comfort and quality of that shave was FAR superior than any men's razor I ever used. They last a few times as long, too. Subsequent to using the Venus, I tried some blades and a razor I purchased, online, and the comfort and quality wasn't nearly as good. As such, I went back to the Venus and I'll stick with it, thank you very much...

No SCFM for me. There was a time I used a badger brush and soap to lather up. But once I started shaving in the shower the brush got all funky and the soap turned to mush, so I just started rubbing the bar on my face. My man indulgence is I get an old fashioned strait razor shave once or twice a month. I get up early grab a nice coffee head to this old fashioned 1950's barber shop. Recline in the vintage barber chair, feet up, hot towel, facial and temple massage with Noxema, another hot towel, cocoa butter base hot lather, shave, moist cool towel clean up, astringent finish. For about thirty minutes every two weeks the pressures of life go away. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1487458872.jpg FYI- this is not the actual place. |

Merkur 23C Long Handle Safety Razor | Comfortable Design However as said you have to take your time, I keep a Mach III handy for a quick shave. I'm going to cehck out sammy's eBay link. |

Mach 3 for me. Get them at costco. Being self employed I only have to shave once a week or if I have a client meeting.
I'm old school - pre-lotion, art of shaving cream and brush, and after balm and always the minute I step out of the shower. I used to shave in the shower too, but haven't rigged up a mirror in my current one... when we re-model it'll have one built in. |
Just gave up on the Dollar Shave Club & went back to Gillette.
DSC razors suck. Lots of cuts, can't get in as close up under the snozzle, hard to wash, didn't last long. Gillette spendy but the best I've found. Mach 3 & another style, I forget the name. Cheapest blades are bulk on eBay. YMMV. |

I did the Dollar Shave Club. Made it for about 2 months before I cancelled. Their shave butter and other cream products are great, but the blades dull in 5 shaves or less. I tried all 3 levels of their blades but found them cheap and unusable. Went back to Gillette Mach 3 from amazon. I can get a month out of 1 blade no problem.

I use Astra double edged blades. Box of 100 goes for $12 or $13. Lasts me about two years.

I can shave in under 5 mins including building larger in my brush, but keep in mind I only shave from a bit below my jawline down. I shave daily and get about 2 weeks out of a blade Fun fact on the Edwin jaeger razors. They are chromed in the same factory that does work for Rolls Royce and it shows. Some of the finest chrome I've ever seen! |
I have been doing Dollar Shave Club for about three years now and have been happy with the razors. I use their middle of the road model and change the blade once per week. I have a pretty thick beard and shave daily, sometimes twice and the razors seem to hold up fine.

Well, I've never actually seen it, but my mommy said I had one... |
Harry's is the best blades I have ever used. They are made in their own German factory. I have them send me 8 blades every 3 months. Cost around 15 bucks. Nice feature it has is an added single hlade for side burns and the area right under your nose. Like many of you, I have tried a variety of blades and Harry's has been the best. For the first time in my life, I shave daily and actually, don't mind it. They have a free offer where you pay 3.00 shipping, you get a blade, handle and shaving gel. I also get the gel and after shave. So I spend total around 200.00/yr for everything, shipped no hassles. Tim

I am also going to try the Schick ST2. Thanks! |
^ I think you will like Harry's. Funny as I just hit the post button I noticed on the bottom of my page a Harry's ad. Modern marketing at its finest. Tim

I tried Dorco for a few months...a Korean Gillette knock-off. The blades are ok but the handles kept breaking when dropped. Gillette was an overall better product. I head someone cryotemp'd a blade and it lasted months... |
When I have the patience I blow dry the razor w/my hair dryer...seems to give me a few more shaves before it dulls. I have a lumberjack's beard.
. When I shave everyday I use my Norelco shaver...gets as close as razor...if I wait too many days the Norelco will struggle. . I also buy my razors at Costco. |
