New Earth-like planets found?

Quote:
Wonderful potentially habitable worlds around TRAPPIST-1
Quote:
It (finding Trappist-1) was an exciting discovery—yet on that day no one could possibly have imagined that less than a year later they would make another significant discovery involving the same system. But here we are: today, they announced in Nature the discovery of seven potentially habitable Earth-like worlds.

Pretty cool!

Until further info is found, I will take Bob Kontak's PVC sheets over the new planets. I simply need more "kazaaammm" to sell me on these new planet thingees. Price is right. Location is not a good commuter distance.

They can only see a slight, but barely measurable, blink of light when the planets are crossing the sight to the sun. And yet they know that the planets are potentially habitable Earth-like worlds?
What a waste of time and money!

What can’t we say about the TRAPPIST-1 system?
...
•No, we have not yet discovered a cousin of Earth, much less seven of them. The measurements provide interesting information about these exoplanets, and we can confidently say that six of them are rocky. However, their location in the habitable zone of their star does not imply that they are habitable. For instance, Mars and Venus are in the habitable zone of our Sun, but are not habitable anymore.
So, why are we still aiming at Mars?

... and too many artist representations over all on those subjects.

The Reddit response was it would be a 160,000 year trip to send a probe/rocket

I saw this news article on PBS news this morning about the dwarf star.

Relatively close to us location is also the most Earth-Like planet announcement ever, and all around one star is unheard of.

Quote:
After an careful analysis, the data revealed the presence of seven Earth-sized exoplanets (named TRAPPIST 1b, c, d, e, f, g, and h) in orbit around this M-type star.
EDIT:
It's also Ninja day in Japan...................not connected, just a PBS thing.

The system is 39 light years away. SO we are seeing them right now as they were 39 years ago. Just a meager 234 trillion miles away.

The chances of intelligent civilization advanced to a point to have discovered radio is slim. We humans only have been transmitting radio with any power for 70 or 80 years, and only in the advanced countries.

Communicating with them in any form is a pipe dream. Traveling there is not going to happen in the next many thousands of years.

They did the math.

I only went up to Calculus-4, don't ask me I'm a dummy compared to them.

This artist’s conception shows what the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system may look like, based on available data about their diameters, masses and distances from the host star. All the exoplanets in this system exist in the so-called habitable zone and are Earthlike in size and mass.

The video gives a good explanation for their thinking on this - no math required.

Assume we established a communication method with the inhabitants.
How would the first conversation go? E.g. ...

Earth to Planet: "We have a nice planet here that we have kept in good condition. We are a friendly people. We want to visit your planet, are you accepting visitors?

Planet to Earth: We've studied your planet for the last 10,000 years. We are not accepting visitors at this time.

it's a bit of a stretch... The planets presence is detected deom the slight dimming of the light of that sun when the planet passes in front... And the earth-like assertion is based on the possibility of water on it, based on its proximity to the sun (goldilock zoen, it's closer to its sun but its sun is less potent).. no conclusive proof of that though... Hell of a gamble if you somehow could take a one way trip ! ;-)

As soon as the Webb starts to get images it will confirm or disprove many of these speculations...
