So that solves that.
Without further delay, by using the trusty harbor freight infrared thermometer, we can conclude my wife's dog prefers to to maintain an average temperature of 135 while lounging next to wood stove.

Temperature were recorded as high as 148. This dog is a more a heat soaking reptile than an endothermic beast!

I always have to shoo a cat or dog away from the front of my large Regency woodstove to put more wood in, or shovel ashes. When I am sick, and have the chills, I sometimes lay directly in front of the stove on the hardwood floors, with just a folded blanket, and a pillow for an hour or two.....it's a good cure.

Get off my lawn!

Our short hair Black and Tan dachshund is like that. He will go outside on a 90 degree day and lay on the concrete against the house in full sun. He will be out there long enough to finally come back in and be hot to the touch.
