The article mentions three toilets all in similar conditions.

This could be the work of three teenagers, each one-upping each other.

What is unclear is how long before the discovery of these conditions and their remedy.

Anger management for Muslims, they were lucky with just the toilets attacked?

You do understand that in the middle-east, the pooping process is different?



Most of the toilets in the middle-east are nothing more than a hole in the ground. With a western style toilet, they open the lid and squat no the bowl. Sometimes the results are not good.

Some of the toilets are "hybrid", with little wings on the side of the bowl for where you stand.

When I was in Mogadishu in '93 - '94, we had to padlock our porta potties. The locals would climb up on the toilet ledge and squat to do their business. No cares if they missed. Then would take a water bottle and splash it all over to clean themselves up. Reminds me a lot of those photos.

I thought of that but dismissed it initially because these are technically seasoned international travelers, they were all leaving Jeddah and going home - they must have taken a flight to get to Jeddah, right?

Besides, they are all sitting in seats, they know how to sit, it's not a new learned behavior, unlike squatting over a hole would be for us.

However, your photo of the alternate toilet is convincing, and makes one wonder why the airline did not spec these in their order to Airbus.

Going to Ethiopia which is right next to Somalia.

I saw a guy $hitting in the street at the Mogadishu harbor. Just hiked up his man skirt and squatted.

My brother worked in Chad, Africa for a while, he posted some of the "by the road signs" the oil company put up to help prevent the spread of disease.

No pooping signs are pretty funny to us, but serious business over there - they just go where ever they are.

It's like one big dog park over there, just with people instead.

A few years ago, I met one of our Pelican Brothers that is an ex-pat living in Austria. His friend that went to lunch with us rents a AirBnB place........The stories he told about his Saudi Tenants were unreal.

Years ago my adopted niece went on a road trip with my Mom. Niece is full blood Sioux indian and was in her late 20's. They both had a great time, but my Mom had a heck of a time convincing the niece it was not a good idea to just squat and go no matter where she was. The niece claimed the indians had been doing that long before the white man came. Mom had to explain it wasn't a modesty issue, that with so many more people it was a health concern.
