i am a guinea pig for VERTIGO/menieres

I have had vertigo for many years but it got worse at thanksgiving,. pretty much dizzy everyday since.
I have been diagnosed with menieres disease although reluctantly because it is something I feel is too easy to jump on.
anyway, at this point I will do anything.

so I started a drug testing program last month.
Friday I got an injection in my ear, either a placebo or the real drug.
I have been kind of dizzy more often since but not as bad a symptoms. don't know if it is just from having the drug injected into my ear or if it is the drug.
the ringing seems to be better although it got worse last week so maybe it is just back to normal.

the program is
OTO 104

Good luck.

It has to suck to feel dizzy all the time.

My dizziness comes from my heart meds, so I only take them after eating a big meal....seems to ease the symptoms.

I would hate having vertigo all the time, I sure hope the drug therapy works well for you.

My mom has suffered with Menieres for decades - debilitating and often with little warning.

It took quite a while for her to be positively diagnosed and even longer for any effective treatment. She eventually found a specialist at Hershey Medical Center (about a 3 hour trip for her). Even the best treatment wasn't completely effective.

She had the nerves to her right ear severed which gave her relief for several years, then it reappeared in her left ear.

You have my sympathy if you have a positive diagnoses of Menieres. Find the best specialist you can for treatment.

Someone I know 'cured' it by sleeping in a Lazy-boy chair...I have no idea how that helped.

had a good morning. things got "floaty" after lunch.

it sucks. was very reluctant to go on the trip yesterday. got a little dizzy at lunch yesterday. went and napped in the car for a little bit while wife visited with daughter and friends.
thank goodness it was not bad driving home.
driving really sucks.

I have no hearing in left ear so if need be they can go in and rip I that stuff out.

Not sure you would want to interfere with your current treatment - but have you tried meclizine? It's available OTC as Bonine - the seasick pill. It worked wonders for me when I had episodes, although haven't had any issues in 5 or 6 years. It did make me VERY drowsy, so I'd break pills in half for dosage.

Yikes, sorry to hear. I was good work friends with a guy who was diagnosed in the 80's with meniere's. He was mid 20's at the time. He ended up having the nerve surgery described above. I've somewhat kept in touch over the years. I think he's done pretty well with it. The surgery is significant and if it shows up in the other ear you can end up totally deaf. As stated above, find the best specialists you can and good luck.

The inner ears help control balance.
The HUGE sinus cavities within the human skull drain into the ears/throat.
The lymphatic/blood system drains and filters while we sleep, and the liver/kidneys/bladder filters the bad from the liquid cellular regeneration system running throughout us.

You pronated and felt better afterwards.
Great. Do that again and again if that works.
(any other advice is above my paygrade)

tried that along with valium. did nothing.

about the only thing I have figured out is caffeine triggers it.
I have had some foods that seem to trigger it but have not been as conclusive as caffeine.

I don't drink coffee but I like my tea.
even tried green tea and decaff green tea. seemed to trigger it.

Another option you might ask the doctor about is scopolamine - it's available as a patch. I did not have a single episode when I was wearing a patch. (It might be available orally now?)

scopolamine transdermal : Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing - WebMD

Scopolamine alternative is dimenhydrate (sold as gravol (non-prescription) in some places.)
