Psyllium/Metamucil

Time to start taking some. Any recommendations from those who know? Capsules? Powder? Brand? I just got "inspected" and the good news is no polyps, the bad news is I need to start taking this.

powder, full sugar version (sugar free is nasty). Metamucil brand is my choice. I LOVE it. keep at it and watch your cholesterol numbers improve, snacking decrease and overall well being improve.

I take it regularly (get what I did there?)

Had a colonoscopy done after a scare and the doc was telling me he loves the stuff. Suggested it helps keep some of the less desirable stuff we put in our bodies from getting too cozy.

My routine is typically 2 tablespoons in a tall glass of water. stir it up then chug it in the evening. look forward to a nice er...movement...in the am. can also be mixed with many things. I've put in in my shakes as well. be aware it may interfere with meds taken around the same time.

Tons of home-brew recipes online that work. My buddy makes his own with great success.
Good luck.

i dont mind the sugar free metamucil. it's a great fiber supplement, and gets you to down at least one big glass of water per day.

it is a backpacking magic..and i use it while traveling.

not so sure if it helps me NUMBERTWO, since i am a damn playdoo factory anyways..normally.

I take the capsules. Started taking them because they help with cholesterol (a little). The capsules are faster and easier.

You have to be careful with the capsules and really up your water intake if you use them. You can end up dehydrating yourself if you don't increase your fluid intake.

I put hemp protein in my smoothies, lots of fiber in it.

No sugar, all natural.

Not sure if it lowers cholesterol though.

Heaping teaspoon in OJ, stir and guzzle. I use the Colon Cleanse hi octane hayburner stuff. These pipes are clean!

My gut doc says to do the powder because mixing it with water makes sure you get enough liquid with it.

I've been taking the plain old Kirkland psyllium capsules for years with breakfast & dinner. Amazing how stuff like this goes up in price once it gets trendy. I used to buy the same thing in tablets there years ago for $6.99. Now I think they're double or maybe more. I just look at it as a supplement to eating the veges and fruits I do. My dad died of colon cancer, but he didn't eat anything but bacon and gravy.

The Jackson Fiber Cocktail
Psyllium Mucilloid -----1 Heaping tablespoon
Miller’s Wheat Bran ---1 Heaping tablespoon

Stir vigorously with 4-6 ounces of any beverage such as orange or grapefruit juice. For fewer calories, you can mix it with water and add flavored Crystal Light.

At the time of the creation of the original JFC recipe, the era of prebiotic soluble fibers had not yet dawned. So, prebiotic fibers, along with all their health benefits, may be incorporated into this formula.

The Jackson Fiber Cocktail Deluxe
Psyllium Mucilloid -----1 Heaping tablespoon
Miller’s Wheat Bran ---1 Heaping tablespoon
Prebiotin™ -----------1 Level teaspoon

Stir vigorously with 4-6 ounces of any beverage such as orange or grapefruit juice. For fewer calories, you can mix it with water and add flavored Crystal Light.

If you wish to learn more about fiber and how and why this formula was designed, continue to read below.
Or you could just start eating more fiber? Beans, lentils, hummus, apples, oranges, etc....

When you find sweet oranges eat most of the peeling also...it has the majority of Vit. C and the pulp is rich in Bioflavinoids.
I'm lucky...I have 7 orange trees...a few different varieties and this year they'll all very sweet so I'm eating most of the peelings. Great fiber.

I am eating more veggies, but you are also supposed to stay away from acidic foods and alcohol. Thanks for the input guys.

That would be a doctor thing to say. They don't trust you to do it right. It's not hard to draw a 10 oz glass of water and wash the capsules down. Either way, you have to wait 2 hours before you take any other kind of medication. The fiber absorbs your meds and they pass right through you.

It's the only thing that helps me get a good dump. Before I started taking it pinching a loaf was like giving birth.

Too many sugars in most fruit juices, so I use the powder mixed in V-8.

vash 03-02-2017 09:42 AM

too much salt in V8 for me.

Yeah...depends on if your concern is diabetes or heart problems. Blood sugar and chloresterol. As you get older, everything becomes a balancing act.
