The first time I used Trex it was all on me... figured in FL wood would rot fast... Boy was that a mistake ! If you factor in the price of that stuff, the weight of it that requires a lot more support, the fact it gets wavy after a few years like ripples on a lake... then add that the light colors get dirty and the dirt sinks into the plastic/wood mix, requiring very long sessions of pressure washing upclose, only to have to do again more often than you'd be restaining!!! Add that it get hot under your feet, IMO more slippery than wood when wet, and very hard to dispose of when you are tired of it. I would NEVER do this again with any brand, I don;t see other variations doing better...

Amusingly as I said earlier, I bought a new house and the effing deck was trex too ! It also looks like a wavy sea ! I can't wait to pull it out but my landfill doesn't want it, and it looks so wavy nobody else does either...

My deck has direct southern exposure and get hammered with sun, salt environment, etc.

We used it in Seattle. Excellent. It uses clips to fasten it from below, looks slick. We only had the house for 3 years after that, but there was no wear or UV deterioration in that time.

Please people.......stick with wood and if you are too lazy to maintain it hire someone every couple of years to power wash and seal. I spent the better part of a decade helping to develop and market a high end cellular PVC decking. Despite the consumers best hope, nothing outdoors lasts for ever and you will be unhappy when you realize it can never be refinished, only ripped up and replaced.
The composite deck industry uses the consumer for R&D. Wood is way better in the long run.

A neighbor down the block just redid their covered front porch, decking, face boards, new steps, columns etc... all in real fir wood. All looking very original to this nearly 100 year old house.

I have to take some pictures before they stain or paint it, it looks so good right now.

I am in the process of ripping up some crap composite decking that is all split and wavy. I'm going to lay part of the blame on the install as its horrid too.

Once I get everything squared and reshape the deck, I think I'm going with wood. I used Brazilian Redwood on my last house and really liked it. Yes, you could see the screw holes and it required work, but just felt so much better than the fake stuff. It's not cheap though and it's brutal on tools....

Wow shocked at all the negatives about trex. I did my deck in trex 15+ years ago and it still looks great. My in laws did there's around the same time in red wood. Looked great but every two years it has to be restrained. Then had to start replacing boards it sucks. My trex still look good I power wash it every other year and no problems. I had to space the supports at 12" instead of 16". No waves no problems. If you like staining or paying someone to do it wood is the way.

I'm real happy with my Trex deck. It's about 3 years old.

My parents' deck is a full PVC product called Azek. It is impressive stuff - no fading, warping, mildew, etc.
