You double cut the ends on the table saw to allow for the kurf, then re-measure?
I believe that you are making what some might call thousand year furniture!!

Yes. Also, the short sections are final fit and cut after the halves are clamped together and flushed (the step with the hand plane). If all goes well they go together without muss or fuss.

Nice project and good technique that saves making that rabbet joint w/a table saw on two sides.

Thanks! Yes, that's another benefit of this method. I'd be more inclined to cut this rabbet with router and a a pattern in solid stock, but that's a big chore too. This method is pretty forgiving to variations in material thickness.
