Motorcycle Street riding pants
Hi, anyone have any experience with Kevlar, or others. Not really into leather. Thanks

You'll need to narrow your criteria. Hot weather, cold, rain, etc. I like Olympia gear (vented or not) and recently picked up a pair of Kevlar lined Klim riding jeans that I like.
Different tools for different jobs.

BMW City 2 Pants in denim or Anthracite...really nice quality and great for all day riding and walking around. Not kevlar but you could get a schoeller liner to wear underneath. The pants come with high quality knee and hip pads.

For around-town riding, I've got a pair each of Scorpion Covert Pro, Bilt Ironworker, and Sliders 4.0. The Scorpions are made to look like 501s and are the most comfortable (mesh lining) and offer the best protection. The Sliders have decent Kevlar coverage but crap armor - I wear Forcefield "limb tubes" underneath, and the fit is notoriously baggy. The Ironworkers have minimal Kevlar coverage and Styrofoam armor - I pretty much never wear them anymore to ride. Note that all of them are kinda warm in hot weather, as the Kevlar limits airflow at less than highway speeds. I'd like to do some long distance touring this season, so I'll probably spring for some high-end CE rated denim like Saint Model One Unbreakables that can hold up to an off and highway speeds.

There are lots of different styles of Kevlar jeans. Just search around. Its hard to buy off the web tho, because in my experience, the sizing is way off. They are pretty comfortable, but hotter than normal jeans. Not the crash protection of leather, but I think the abrasion resistance is better than without. Cotton lasts about 5 feet in a skid.

The Kevlar jeans tend to be very baggy. In a slide they will ride up or bunch up risking a tear in the fabric. IMO you're better off with decent textile pants like the BMW pants.

I've got a couple pairs of these items find very comfortable. The Kevlar lining covers more than some other brands and they aren't crazy expensive.

You didn't say what kind of weather or if you want to wear your street clothes underneath.
Flatbutt added a good comment: Quote:
The problem with riding pants that fit over your street clothes is they are loose, and any armor will move around in a crash (like flatboat said). What I ended up with was a separate pair of knee and shin protection that I can wear under any riding pants, and they will stay put in an accident, since they are not attached to the riding pants. That frees me up to get riding pants that fit over my street clothes. My riding pants have airflow ventilation and the option to add a light rain layer underneath. The airflow keeps me cool in hot weather if my street clothes are light, I can stay warm in cold weather by adding the rain or wind protection and heavier street clothes, and i stay dry in the rain. I feel like I have the best of all worlds.

Having done my last riding over 30 yrs ago and mostly in Levi's, I'd recommend Duluth Trading Fire Hose pants. I got a pair recently and would have loved to have something like them back then.
If you're interested in seeing what they're like, PM me as we're close by.

I don't see how you can claim all Kevlar jeans tend to be baggy. The fit varies from company to company, depending on the looks they're going for. I've passed on many brands because they're too snug, even in my correct size.

All you really need is a good pair of riding shorts and a pair of Jap Flaps. Plenty of ventilation.

Yeah, I know I just made a prejudiced post, but when's the last time you saw a Harley rider wearing Aerostich stuff? It's gotta be exceedingly rare.
