I hate cars

Right now? I知 as bad as the most liberal politicians...I HATE CARS!

Why? Just got back home after trying to get to the indian casino. Oh, no fault of the Mustang, it performed well. Heavy traffic was bad enough. Two lane roads, long strings of traffic, useless to even think of passing. Then once we were maybe 25 miles from our goal, it all came to a halt. Must have been a wreck or a road slide. So, I found a place to pull off, watch the road, wait for traffic to flow again. Waited 2 hours, so ****it...turned around & came back home.

Then, must have hit a shift change at Oregon State or something, because over an hour of stop, go 3 feet, between Corvallis and Albany,
This to cover 8 miles...yep, less than 8 mph!

So, I have a headache, I知 dead beat, I知 damned cranky, my clutch leg is trembling, and I just wasted over 100 miles of driving..for ****ing nothing! Man, I知 worn to a frazzle!

If somebody offered me free Singer but I had to drive to La-La land to pick it up, I'd tell 'em to keep the damned thing. I don't want to even think of driving for quite a spell.

I hate traffic, especially consistently bad traffic. Fortunately, I have a 19 mile one way drive to work that has all of 5 signal lights and 6 or 7 stop signs. Takes me 27 minutes door to door with a stop for coffee on the way.

Ah I reminisce of the days with the 951 with a stage 2 clutch.
It was always leg press day, but only for the left.🤔

This. Move to a less populated area. I often drive 3 miles with no other traffic at all. None.

We moved to a semi rural area about 25 miles from one of the main cities in the County. We hate the thought of going down into the traffic and congestion. On the return home, the traffic thins down to a trickle by the time we arrive to the exit to our little village. We really can't imagine returning to all of that.

Dunno what could possibly be so intriguing at a Casino that would make you wait 2 hours, but I think 20 minutes would've been my limit before I headed home.

And on a Friday night, no less... who woulda thunk it?

You don't hate cars, you hate yourself for being stupid. Or if not, you should be.

Two hours?

This why I have a Westy. Sometimes I get stuck on a closed road where I know I'll be there for a while. So I just pop the top, get out the guitar, and have a good time.

One time, I was stuck for two hours right behind my friend with his fishing boat on a trailer. We sat in the back of the boat and had a few beers. When the traffic finally got going we pulled off to the side and waited until we sobered up.

It was the only highway to Lincoln City, Oregon. The pool tournament held at the Casino has an entry list that reads like a who's who in pool. I'm not just talking the USA, but from all over the planet. The elites, the top pros. It was early Friday afternoon that I hit the jam-up.

Damn, Oregon was much nicer to live in before the population tripled...this same road used to be a costal mountain pass that I loved to canyon carve...

Anyway, would you take a drive to see a top level race? Trust me, the players there are akin to the top 10 on an F-1 grid as far as skill in their respective sports are concerned. (edit) That's what was so intriguing. Sure as hell wasn't the gambling. I'd name names but you wouldn't know them any more than they'd know who Lewis Hamilton is.

Also, I do live in a semi rural area, 6 miles north of a small town on a road that really goes nowhere. Traffic that goes by the front of my home is more likely to be painted yellow and green with a deer emblem than to be a quick car.

Sorry you missed the pool. I have to plan in advance for a lot of things here in the NE.

That right there is why I found a Mustang GT convertible with an auto trans. My clutch leg/hip has a steel plate and pins in it from a previous accident (someone ran a stop sign into me), so heavy, stop and go traffic sucks for me with a 5/6 speed.

That is definitely a thing in Oregon. Plenty of sweet roads, but too many people now. You end up having to go too far North or South if try to take a different route. I guess maybe if you took a logging road, but you are rolling a Mustang, not an F 150

Not all of Oregon is that way...just parts of the Willamette valley...Portland to Eugene particularly. Anyway you slice it though, its still waaaaay better than So Cal.

You are wrong.

My wife is native to Oregon, I am native to SoCal... urban traffic sucks no matter what state you are in... and I have done work in Orlando to Boston... traffic sucks there just as much as L.A. or Portland.

This^^^. My wife has a automatic Lexus and I have a Cayenne Turbo for such pedestrian excursions. A great stereo and heated seats make it no worse than watching TV in the family room (unless you need a bathroom)...and my wife is trapped and cannot escape my mindless prattle (so not entirely less than enjoyable to me). Plus I can easily tow my 911 behind on my Trailex if I wish. Of course the Cayenne is great for my trip to the dump each week as well...and is still faster than most mustangs I encounter...even towing the 911 (sorry...had to get in the Mustang shot, it is a Porsche forum)

I had a '65 Mustang with a stick shift when I was a kid (I could only afford one car). I have adult toys now that are appropriate for purpose. Might as well have kept your 911 if you were getting a stick shift.

I live in one of the most densely populated areas in the country, and traffic is part of daily life here. The thing is, the infrastructure is designed for volume, and the regulars like me know how to deal with heavy volume. Sure, accidents and other issues will create pockets of congestion and sometimes completely lock things up, but typically things keep moving...hell, we use the shoulders and the median strip if needed to keep the flow going.

I find that more recently developed areas have far worse and far more frustrating traffic issues than what we get around here. I think there are two reasons for this: 1) the suburban development ethos applied in the last few decades is zoned communities with commercial areas separated from dwelling areas, and limited entrances and exits to each zone, all fed by smaller rural two lane highways never designed for the capacities they now serve. 2) the people in these areas don't know how to drive in the congested conditions. Put these two factors together, and you've choked the flow = any person who considers themselves a "driver" is gonna be pissed/frazzled.

Yeah, this. I've driven through Oregon a few times in the last couple years, (mostly just down the 5 from WA. state but a few detours), trying to get through Portland anytime of day is waaaaay worse than any drive I take in L.A. You can take that 205 and avoid it but only if you have no business or anyone to visit in Portland. The freeway system was so obviously designed for a much smaller population. In Los Angeles, (other than the west side which is awful), there are always multiple ways to skin the same cat in terms of routes to the same destination. I mostly drive or motorcycle between DTLA and Hollywood, Silverlake and Glendale or Burbank and if anything it seems to be less choked than it used to be. Still a lot of traffic, don't get me wrong but it moves and if you're a good driver who knows the roads it is not too bad at all.

Much worse in places like Portland or Minneapolis, (or surrounding areas), where you are stuck on the one and only highway and it's plugged up.

One thing happened on the drive back home. About 10 miles from where I gave up. Still long lines of cars, of course, but at least for that stretch, moving. Headed for the coast, a Audi A-8...beautiful and fast car. Just shook my head, said to Cindy: "That poor bastard hasn't a clue what he's headed for."

To complicate things here in Oregon...money that could go into road improvement gets syphoned into Portland's light rail. A system I never use, but sure as hell get to help pay for.

Using the retirement art of crowd avoidance, I'm staying home today. That's pretty usual for us. Stay home on weekends, do our out and about things during the week, when most should be working. But even that doesn't work these days.
