i finally saw some TINY houses.
they brought a few in to our county fairgrounds. kinda sucked because they only brought three. two of them kicked butt. super posh. tiny high end equipment. one had a full sized fridge. it is damn amazing how much crap they can efficiently cram into a tight space. they were both 26 footers. two lofts each. the bathrooms were bigger than my first apartments!!
i think if i had two of them parked around a courtyard set up for outdoor living i could do it. (okay..big 4-car barn hidden behind them trees). one set up a bedroom/bathroom..the other living room/kitchen. they were cheap tho..all decked out, the expensive one was $87,000 delivered. i dont think living "eldery" could handle a ladder up to a bed essentially sitting on the floor. what do you think? |
a gun safe would not work :)

I saw this article on tiny homes the other day and thought that it was interesting.
Jeff Wilson makes Kasita tiny homes after living in dumpster - Business Insider You may want to check out the documentary on Netflix (not specific to tiny homes) Minimalism Documentary on Netflix | The Minimalists We had kids and lived in a 4br 2000sqft home. When we were empty nesters, we eventually decided to get out of the suburbs. We sold the house and moved to a 2 br 1293sqft apt (intended to go 1br, but did the other for a while). We then moved to a 1br and then to a different 1br once we realized what our priorities were. We are now living in a 1br apt that's about 850sqft. It's got 1 small closet. We might be able to live in something smaller but it would need better, more efficient storage and utilization of space. I don't know that I want to go much smaller, but this feels like a good size for us. |
300sqft is just a bit small for me and I'm single. Don't think I could get used to the sleeping area that I can't stand up in, that bed would only get made on wash day. Like having a separate laundry room, home office (work from home), and attached 2 car garage. Still basically only use half the 1800sqft home.

I must be out of the loop. I don't get it. Why not buy a nice used camper trailer/ 5th wheel? You still have to have something to pull either one. After seeing the TV show on these- I'd like to see how the owners liked it at the end of a year.......
|
The insulation and condensation factor of a camper would be a problem in cold climates.
|
My thought is you could customize a travel trailer or smaller RV to be just as nice amenities wise and be a lot easier to move around. Including insulation for cold weather, you don't have to have a wood frame to insulate something.
|
Just imagine for a minute getting an RV with an $87,000 budget.......absolutely blow that tiny house into the weeds ?
|
Might be a cool vacation spot but no chance I could do it full time. Wood be a great backyard hideout though. I would much rather live on a boat if it came to it.

I think it's the liberal "green" millenials that love the idea of a tiny house, and how neat/tidy/organized thier lives would be, but in reality, we all need some escapability from spouses/children now and then that tiny spaces don't provide.

The majority of 'wee houses' I've seen were really neat, but I have too much stuff....I'd have to get rid of 3/4's of my possessions to live there and could acquire zero to continue.
There is no private space either...nada. Not for me. |

I've known a few folks who have lived on boats before...like a 72' sailboat.....takes a certain mindset....ain't enough room for your reflection in the mirror :). And that was in one of San Diego's nicest marinas...
|
If it needs 'fix a flat' I do not consider that a home....
