Oven Problem

My Maytag oven has an odd problem.

In 'bake' mode only the bottom element works, the top element does not turn on.

But the upper element works, because 'broil' works fine.

Probably the control board?

As far as I know, it's working properly.

That's what it's supposed to do.

Turn on "preheat" and both should turn on.

No, the graphic image on the display shows the top and the lower burner on for 'bake'.

Both are supposed to come on.

recipes are designed for the heat to come from the bottom, so your oven must be challenge to bake a cake in.

Bake is just the lower.

Some ovens will use both during preheat then shut down the upper.

Some ovens will cycle the broiler to maintain a more even temp.

Some ovens will use the broiler in bake but at low wattage so it may actually be putting out a small amount of heat but just not turning red.

Set it to bake, reach in and touch the broiler then you'll know.

Regardless, if the oven comes up to heat in a reasonable time and functions why sweat it?

The Samsung "bean counters" decided my oven doesn't need a bottom element at all .
I've never taken the challenge....

Maybe the graphics are just not correct, or somehow less sophisticated than they should be. Ovens are about even heat and constant temperature. Broilers are about searing heat and penetrating radiation.

I would call the customer support line. But since the upper element does in fact work, maybe I'd just try baking a cake or cooking a chicken instead.

Uncle. Thanks for the help.

I have two ovens, my other oven heats from the top and bottom. Maye the Maytag is different...

Anyhow, it's baby seal stew. You're all welcome to come over.

This is how mine used to work. In hindsight, the upper never got red hot on top, so it must have been cycling for short periods of time.
