19mpg on 215 mile hwy trip in my Tundra

'17 Crewmax. did 65-75 the entire trip. I am shocked it did so well.

used non-ethanol 91 from local Royal Farms.

5.7 V8 with a 6 spd auto...no stupid cylinder cutoff slowly destroying my motor, no ridiculous number of gears confusing itself every time a breeze hits the truck, no aluminum body panels and no corn liquor making the corn lobby rich and destroying rubber in my fuel system while bringing water into my tank...just good ol fashioned horsepower and cruise control.

take note GM and Ford! your trucks are more comfortable both in ride and interior but in the end I spent my $42000 on a truck, not a caddy engineered to last 60k miles then get dumped on some poor trailer trash who wants to feel like a big shot while his truck falls apart around him.

That's good news to me. I have the same truck with 1500 miles on it. Is yours four wheel drive?

Sounds like a nice truck. I've owned a Tacoma and it was a very reliable rig. I've owned a couple GMCs (presently a 2014 Sierra 1500), and they have been very reliable rigs.

I'm sure you're aware of the Toyota trucks that have been falling apart with frame rot in recent years...doesn't appear that any manufacturer is without their issues at this point.

Glad you like your new rig. Enjoy it.

On Interstate trips (I do push it a bit speed-wise) I average a legit 18.2 in my 2015.

It has 55k on it, a bed cover, and is a 4x4 TRD.

Perhaps not for everybody, but the truck works for me. Frankly, I know everyone says the ride and interior is better in other truck brands, but it can't be by much: My 2015 (I just drove 450 miles from Maryland to western North Carolina) is a freaking magic carpet at 80mph.

I'll get at least 8 to 10 more years out of it.

I'd be lucky to get 19 mpg from my 4Runner.

My 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the eco-diesel gets 28 mpg on the interstate at 70-75 mph

My son's 1999 Dodge 2500 4x4 with cummins and 5 speed manual gets 17-18 at 70 mph

Are you bragging about your mileage or longevity?

My 2015 f-150 likely would have gotten higher. I get 18-19 mpg on regular 87 from Costco around town. It isn't 4wd and it's a 3.5l v6 eco boost that goes pretty good compared to my dads v8.

yep 4wd crewmax. even has the TRD exhaust which I would think if anything would hurt mileage.

I was just really pleased to see such a great number.

In 2003/2004, when most winter gas around the US was 5% MTBE, California mandated 10% Ethanol. The energy difference should only be about 3%. I drove a couple of times from San Diego to Chihuahua. Using the California Gas, I was getting around 14 mpg in my Jeep Cherokee on the highway. As soon as I filled up in Arizona, my mileage would jump to around 17 mpg, even with higher speed limits in Arizona.

The only explanation is that the ethanol attracts moisture. If the mixture were 80% Gas, 10% Ethanol and 10% Water, the energy would about balance. It may not even need to be 10% water, as the heat of vaporization of the water would absorb quite a bit of energy.

That's a great number. My 2016 with a double cab, 5.7 engine, 4 wheel drive, and towing package only gets about 16 in local driving. It's down to 15 on this 1000 mile trip, pulling a 1500 lb very un-aerodynamic trailer at what the trip computer says is an average 67 mph.

I have no doubt a trailer will kill that mileage. heck just towing a 17' duck boat gave me lousy mileage!

local driving I managed to top 15 ONCE so far (only about 4500 miles on it). generally i'm around low 14's.

Breetta: Does the 5.7 require 91, or is that your choice? I will buy a used Tundra before summer...

No you can use the cheap stuff but I try to stick it to the corn lobby every chance I get and the only non e fuel we have locally is 91.

Do you like your 1500 eco-diesel? I'm looking at a 2105 with 20k miles on it right now.

One of the times I tracked mileage on my '03 (700 mile RT), 7.3L, F350, SRW with Michelin M&S tires, I got 18.4 going north and 19.2 coming back south. Later on tires with a more aggressive tread, it dropped to 17.2 mpg.

Yep....

Awesome mileage and good towing capacity. Not as much grunt as my 2006 F250 PowerStroke I sold to buy this one; however, I have pulled cars across a few states several times and averaged around 18 mpg with plenty of power.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty sure this is the way I'll go.

My 1992 2WD Dodge Cummins Gen 1 just got a little over 20mpg but that tank was a lot of HWY drivin.

Just finished a 3,300 mile trip in my '16 Yukon Denali XL. 6.2 L 420 hp 4x4 - 19.7 miles per gallon avg.

80+ mph a vast majority of the time with 4 humans and loaded to the roof.

Not bad.

8 speed, cylinder deactivation and all that other modern crap.
