About to visit an adoptable English bulldog

What can go wrong?

We found a rescue. She was rescued from a hoarder/breeder.

Good dogs? It's about time, my wife won't let up. It's dog time and we don't want to buy one.
Appointment is thurs.

Hoarder may equal low socialization. We had that issue with a lab, of all breeds!

We have had several English Bull dogs and or latest will be a year old next week. Take a large harness and strong leash with you as their stubby neck lets them slip right out of a collar. Good points: very loyal, wants to sleep on the bed with which ever person they bond to, will clean your feet with that huge tongue. Hard points: sheds a bit, has gas, hard headed, has gas and is hard headed but minds very well. They can get cancer easy which is what killed our first two at 12 years old, our Pugs live to 17 or 18 years old! Good luck!

Do they drool?

One of my favorite breeds.

Also at the top of the list for health issues....

My son and his wife have two sisters that they've had since they were pups, ie you could hold them in one hand.
Now, they are about the most solid dogs you could ever meet. Strong too.
They think they're lap dogs too.

Might kill your cat. But from some of your posts, you might like that?

They're beautiful dogs. The ones I've been around are affectionate, as well.
They shed...not my cup 'o tea.

My understanding is the breed has some non-trivial health issues.

Regardless of the health issues, cool of you to attempt to rescue this pup. Hope you can!

Most EBDs I've seen are wadling chubsters with an underbite that sneeze and drool....

English Bulldogs are lovers but do have a lot of health issues. The pic above from Scott looks more like an American Bulldog. Taller and more athletic than it's short and stout Redcoat cousin.

A,IIRC, the breed has progressed so that females can no longer give birth naturally. Most if not all are C-Sections.....Big craniums that don't fit thru the birth canal.

Selective breeding.....as well as nasal issues....but they are sweethearts. Also, they swim like a rock, skin issues/dermatitis in the folds and like most pure breeds, joint dysplasia *sic maybe).

I was raised as a bulldog. Er, well my parents raised and bred bulldogs for most of my childhood. Some bulldogs are pretty bright, others are dumber than a box of rocks.

Very loyal and when they are young they love to play. They are stubborn and very strong.

One of the studs we had only cared about two things, eating and screwing. He happened to be sitting in the corner of the front yard watching the world go by when one of the other breeders brought over the b-itch to be bread. Our male, Igor, was ready to go instantly. After they left he sat in that "special" spot for hours on end. It was like he just knew if he sat there long enough they would return. Well he did return two days later for a second breeding just to be sure. Igor sat in that spot for months after that.

We would take him to the vet for artificial insemination. The vet would find any female that was coming into "season" and that was enough for the vet to give Igor a hand job. He wanted me to learn how and I said hell no, that dog likes me enough already. He was one of the few dogs that would drag you INTO a vets office.

Dear god, I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. That is some funny stuff. Thanks on Monday morning!

Get it a skateboard.

They like skateboards.

I think because of the stubby legs they hate to walk.

Pretty sure they can self propel from the exhaust end.

Bulldogs also snore. When my parents were in their late 70s the last of their bulldogs died from old age. They did not replace the dogs to reduce the work around the house. My mom had a tough time sleeping. She was so used to hearing the dogs snore all night at the foot of the bed she had to get a fan blowing to make some noise.
