Sponsorship money has scarce the last few years. It is getting harder to come up with the money needed to field a car.

Also off the topic: I didn't like the qualifying rules this year. The whole fast 9 is a joke. Why hang it out there just to have to go back and do it again the next day? What's next? Style points for the prettiest car?

I'll tip my hat to Alonso for great qualifying. He looked good for a "rookie". Now we find out how he handles traffic and pit stops.

Impressive, for sure. And he's been really cool and humble about it the whole time. A class act and a great driver.

I think this will be great for the sport.

FA was leading at the time of the HUGE Dixon crash. Howard and Dixon walked a way.

Red flag out to clean up.

CurtEgerer 05-28-2017 09:20 AM

That was huge.

The money shot is when Dixon's car lands on the wall right behind the driver area and cracks in half with the entire powertrain going off in a different direction. A few feet farther up or if the car was rotated another 90 degrees and Dixon would be dead.

Alonso - im-stinking-pressive. I can see why he is a 2 time F1 champion. He has mad driving skills.

He looks awfully comfortable out there doesn't he?

That crash was a little reminiscent of Jeff Krosnoff's. Glad the outcome was the polar opposite, this time. Just a couple feet here, a little more pirouette rotation there, and Dixon would no longer be with us.

FA out-broken Honda engine.

javadog 05-28-2017 11:34 AM

****!!!

Noah930 05-28-2017 11:34 AM

...again.

matthewb0051 05-28-2017 11:35 AM

Turning this crap off. Honda lets Alonso down again. No reason to watch now.

Noah930 05-28-2017 11:39 AM

Still watching (and cheering for) Helio.

What happens if Chilton wins?!

intakexhaust 05-28-2017 11:47 AM

Snooze time at the bull ring.

I wonder if the people at Honda know how much the world thinks they suck right now.

I really enjoyed the race and the finish, Sato is a nice seeming guy that has been at it here in the US for years. A clean racer, and deserving winner.

Alonso continues to impress with the increasing self control and fair ness in his racing.
Big growth from his early years in F1. A great driving talent, and has become a respectable competitor.

It did help that the Americas cup challenger series was playing out at the same time, I enjoyed watching it during the long yellows and cleanup times at Indy.

Big day of racing!

Cheers Richard

Ps it was a Honda powered car that won the race

The first ever Japanese driver winning the Indy 500 with a Honda engine, !!!!!

I don't think Honda could be anymore pleased or care less what the world thinks of Alonso not finishing.

stevej37 05-28-2017 01:07 PM

6 of the top 8 finishing cars were Honda powered.

tevake 05-28-2017 01:15 PM

That sure was a scary crash and landing for Scott Dixon.
Loved hearing his comment in the interview, can't wait to try again next year, what a racer.

Cheers Richard

Agreed. He's The Iceman, for sure.

Based on their actions, I'd have to agree with you.
