Spoon guys, recognize this three sided bayonet?

Moms cleaning house and found this. Possibly from the German side of the family coming from the old country. Makers mark shown, that's the only identifying mark.

It's British (broad arrow stamp). Probably an 1853 Enfield bayonet.

I have two that came with my Mosins. They were outlawed.

Triform bayonet

This style bayonet was used by various countries for nearly 200 years. The design caused a nasty wound that did not heal quickly. The Swiss used a variation for a while that was 4 sided. I think that I recall that this style bayonet was eventually banned. Most of the bayonets used in the American Civil War were of this type.

Fred was first and Tabs has spoken. You may take their assessment to the bank. Very cool, by the way.

The British have used the Broad Arrow on military items forever (almost). The WD stands for "War Department" and the crown over E indicates the Enfield armory. Would need measurements to know for sure, but looks like it is for the 1853 .577 caliber Enfield rifle.

I read the descriptions and view the pictures that gun dealers post on the various gun sales websites. I wind up thinking how little they know and that they often miss important information in their pictures and descriptions.

Lately I had some questions that I would like to have answered and realized my go to guy who had forgotten more than I would ever know has passed away.

Thanks! I found some markings on the blade. Obvious now, don't see how I missed. Will post more..

Scabbard definitely British., WD meaning War Department.
