Had I only known, I should have bought 10 pair. Sadly not made anymore, but I wore those things out and the felt great from the first time I put them on until I begrudgingly threw them out.

That's crazy! If I lived in Cali, and was in a similar situation, I'd sell and go someplace where housing/property wasn't insanely priced.

Hey, if you can say that about your 17 yo. Frye boots, I can say a similar thing about my 51 yo. ones, or my 61 yo. shirt jacket given to me by my H.S. girlfriend, or my 45 yo. Woolrich hunting jacket. I'm actually thinkiing about selling my hunting jacket, because I've only used it a few times. It's rare, like new, quality is unobtainable, & they're God awful expensive now. Somebody else should enjoy it for the next decades.

Non-investment? Rogue Fitness equipment - Rack, barbell, and 400lbs of bumper plates. I get up at 0500 every morning and work out for 50-60 min and save 30-45 min commuting to the gym and gym memberships. Have had it for 5 years now and have probably used it 1500 times. That's about $1.33 per workout.

Investment? South Carolina property zoned commercial and residential that I bought in 2012 for $215k, is now worth $435k, and rents out for 3 times my mortgage.

In the seven months I've owned my San Diego home it has gone up 13%.

Makes the $1,500 a MONTH property taxes a bit easier to swallow. That and prop 13.

Ryan. My former wife & i bought a two bedroom, one bath house in 1976 in Kensington for $39K. That was a lot of money for us then. We sold it four years later for $83K and put that money into a nicer house in Tallmadge near SDSU, which she sold at more than twice the price we bought it for when she moved to the east coast after we went our separate ways. Those were heady times in real estate in the area.

My North Face fleece jacket bought in San Francisco 23 years ago. Froze my butt off while there in shorts and tee shirt. Wore it every winter over a simple tee shirt during the colder months and had been to a few colder places around the world with me. Its worn thin in some areas. I time for a new one, but hey, I am cheap. Worth every penny

Model 77 Skilsaw. It's cut thousands of board feet. Actually I'm on my 2nd as a roofer borrowed my first and all metal 77 in 1995 and let it drop off the roof. It was never the same, so I bought the Mag version. Saved a pound, I think. They were right at 99 bucks in '95. Like $170 now.

But I can say the same for most of my power tools as I always bought the best or near best.

I won't bring up real estate because almost all of us CA homeowners have profited over the years. That's what allows the huge prices because earned equity carries over. First time buyers need big salaries and lots of cash to get into CA RE. After that it's just swapping equity for a bigger loan.

Laugh all you want! 1973 Pinto wagon, 4 speed with A/C. I bought it new and put 125K miles without any problems...including towing a camp trailer all over the country. It didn't owe me a nickel when I sold it to a friend. He drove it for several more years and someone rear ended him. He bought it back from the insurance company and kept driving it. May still be on the road for all I know. Go ahead and rag on me...I loved it.

Pneumatic brad-nailer and Porter-Cable 'pancake compressor' which crapped out once, but I flipped the plenum-gasket and it has worked fine now going on 15 / 17 ?? yrs..built tons of stuff with it.
Don't forget to empty the air tank and oil your tools.

Every so many years I get my money's worth out of my medical insurance premiums. There was the time I went to the ER 3x in a weekend, then finally admitted for surgery.

I bought my 914 in 1979 for $2,500 and the seller took my '70 Bug in trade.

Drove the 914 through college, turned it into a PCA track car and won my class several times then into a modified class a/x car and won Florida state champ 4 times. Still have it today.

I'd have to say both of my 911's.

Owned by one of my best friends, a retired Marine LtCol: $10k a couple of years ago with 115k on the vehicle. All the gold is gone, air stuff removed, many improvements in terms of catching up on just aging car maintenance.

Everything works except the "D" on the dash indicator. I can live with that! 137K and counting.

My house is worth a little more than 4 times what I paid for it 26 years ago, and I don't worry about a price crash at all.
It's paid off, I probably won't ever sell it, and if the price goes down maybe my property taxes will drop a little.
