What's With All the Smurf Blue Cars?

Just ran a few quick errands around Moorpark and Thousand Oaks. Left the neighborhood behind a Smurf blue BMW M6. Two blocks later a Smurf blue 991 in opposite direction. The Thousand Oaks Volvo dealer has one on display at the street, then in the parking lot of BofA this Ford thingy. I kinda like it, but it's got to be a passing trend.

What thinkest thou? Like, dislike?

BMW has one of those colors they call Yas Marina blue. Named after the track.

When I ordered my 914 2.0 way back in 1974 I wanted Gulf Blue. That was a paint to match only thing and stupid money. I went with Olympia Blue. I loved it.

It sure beats yet another Silver paint.

I agree. My 997 is red, partly because red cars were 10% cheaper. Everyone asked why red?, but I'm sick of black, silver, and white (The safe colors). I'm glad I got a red one now. Maybe the wild colors are coming back in sports cars.

Like it. If I were to restore a 911, I'd paint it Mexico Blue.

But yeah, I think what you've noticed is just a fad.

Mexico Blue is a great 911 color.

It's refreshing to see colors other than black, white, champagne, etc...

Manufacturers have become boring.

I like it too. No more Audi/BMW silver on everything.

Now If we could only get rid of the ugly maroon color so many carmakers are obsessed with...

Not sure I'd call that Smurf Blue, far too light?

It is though, a color I'd like to own.

i love the color..but for me it wont last. not aesthetically.

it's like that black lacquer headboard you/I thought was a good idea. two years later, i was smacking my forehead shopping for a wooden colored bed.

Maybe people are too worried about resale so they go safe on colors. Grey/silver is beige to me.
