Canada, Car/Bike Related Places To Visit?

Hi everyone,

We're off on our holiday to Canada at the weekend and I was wondering if you guys could recommend anywhere that is worth a visit and is car or motorbike related? We'll be flying into Vancouver and then doing a tour for a couple of weeks around the Rockies. Kewlona, Banff, Jasper, Whistler etc.

It would be cool (for me) if we would 'accidently stumble' across a nice museum, collection or meet-up whilst on our road trip. I could act surprised and convince the Mrs that it was just pure luck that we found something. Nudge nudge, wink wink

Many thanks in advance.
Jason.

Nelson BC is a nice place to visit and the roads through the Slocan Valley area are fun driving roads.
Highway 31a from New Denver to Kaslo is a blast to drive and a destination road for motorcyclist.

The Nikkei Internment museum in New Denver is interesting as is the SS Moyie sternwheeler museum in Kaslo. Nelson is a fun little city and also beautiful. Lots of things to see and do and lots of bars/pubs and restaurants.
Great mountain biking in the area if you are into that.

Try to drive early before the motorhomes and travel trailers wake up!

Have a fun trip!

Jason,

Depends on how hard you want to go looking In Vancouver, there's a few Cars & Coffee events to look out for. There's a Carbs & Coffee even in North Vancouver June 10th at 1384 Main Street from 7-10 a.m.

There is the Dreamcycle museum in Sorrento (Okanagan area).
Dreamcycle motorcycle museum gift shop and cafe in Sorrento British Columbia owner Mark Lane

There is the Reynolds Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin - which if you are driving from Edmonton to Calgary is just off the highway - however if you are travelling from Banff to Jasper on Highway 93 you won't be even close.
About Reynolds-Alberta Museum

Enjoy your trip!

I'm in wine country (Kelowna), some nice side roads and nice wine, but more importantly on Fathers Day-June 18th- there is a large free car show down town(300- 400 cars on the grass in City Park). We put in last year around 35+ Porsche's from 356's right up to GT3 RS and doing again this year.

Also, any of our national parks are free this summer for our nations 150th.

There's a big Porsche show and ride at Dundarave Village in West Vancouver on June 18, 2017.

Weissach and Porsche Centre Langley have Cars and Coffee events at the beginning of the month.

Weissach is at Spanish Banks in Vancouver, June 10, July 8, and August 12.

PCL is at their dealership in Langley, June 4, July 9, and August 13.

Do keep us posted when you arrive. There is a big Porsche crowd here in Vancouver. The local PCA chapter has a breakfast drive every 2nd Saturday if your jet lag keeps you up - it's at 6am

Hi...Re cars: If you are in a Cab from the airport, I suggest for you to just sit back and relax while watching the oncoming traffic...Porsche's have just about become as common as the ole V-Dubs were; well just about. There are sooo many Lambo's, Ferrari's, McLaren's, Aston Martins etc., that they've now kinda become to be at the bottom of the rung...Crazy 'but' true!

Just a suggestion to you when going, or coming to Vancouver from Kelowna, visa-versa, I would recommend for you to go via the...

1.'Sea to Sky' Hwy to Whistler, over the Duffy Lake Rd, to Cashe Creek, to Spencers Bridge, to Merritt and on to Kelowna.
2. Vancouver to Hope throught the Hope-Princeton Hwy to O.K. Valley - Penticton, Kelowna etc.
3. Vancouver to Hope throught the Frazer Canyon, to Spencers Bridge, to Merritt, to O.K. Valley- Kelowna.

Note* On a round robin trip I would have to flip a coin on using either #2 or#3.

Two consists of very nice mountainous drive to Hope - Green and warm.
Three is a fast route with great canyon scenery - Dry and hot..... Both go throught the Fraser Valley into Vancouver.

Within just the places that you have stated, there are so many nice things for you to see and do that you may even experience a problem in choosing which route and place to go to... Such a serious problem for you to have to deal with eh! Like kinda how many cold beer should you have in a cooler???

Enjoy your vacation!-

Jason, I like how you think! Last year I accidentally found myself traveling through Langley (outside Vancouver) on the same weekend of their huge car show - over 1000 vehicles for sure. My wife is a car girl so she warmed up to it pretty quickly but it added a day to our trip. I like all of the places suggested above. I grew up near Nelson, spent years in Vancouver and Whistler, and spent my youth camping in Banff and Yoho. Later in life my family spent years camping in Jasper and recently we've found ourselves in the okanagan annually.

Drive it all and you won't be disappointed! BC is simply special. I'm just a bit far off of your intended path in Kitimat (google it) to bump into by chance but I wish you best of luck on the trip!

Mark

Fantastic feedback guys, thanks very much for the recommendations. I will check our itinery which in true German fashion is planned to the hour, courtesy of my better half.

I did almost the same trip back in 2000 so I cannot wait to get back there again. Hopefully we will see some of you guys cruising around?

Cheers,
Jason.

If it works for weather/my schedule, I can lend you a m/c for a quick rip from Vancouver to Squamish return. About a 2.5 hour round-trip (depending on traffic/how fast you ride). Fantastic road and a great way to see some of BC. Let me know your dates.

Cars and Coffee in Calgary. Www.porsche.ab.ca should have details.

Calgary also Gasoline Alley at Heritage Park which is very good. Depending on timing, Puoneer Acres is also awesome and worthwhile when they have their big event.

Also, between Jasper and Banff is the Icefields Parkway. It is a must drive highway, absolutely gorgeous!

While there, you can take the giant-wheeled buses up to the Athabasca Glacier in the Columbia Icefield.

Lots to do...
