How Deep Is Your Love
My wife tapped the Grammys tribute to the BeeGees.
Holy cow. John Legend (with Mr. Wonder), Little Big Town, Pentatonix, etc. were great. Man card in the mail. If it comes around again, have a sip of the 70's and enjoy.

I heard it was great! Don't sweat it man, I'm a closet Carpenters fan, "Man Card" intact.

Muscrat Sally just spit up a little bit in Mandy's mouth on the thought of this thread. Why don't you just roll out the Hall and Oats and be done with it? Those were dark days, my friend, when music was shared person to person on fourth generation cassette mix tapes. Disco is dead! Long live disco!

I put the Bee Gees on my pumpkin patch playlist in '12. We play music 90 hrs a week in the canopies over QSC K-8s, and it sounds amazing.
October is Bee Gees, Ambrosia, Earth Wind and Fire, etc also Bruno Mars, Savage Garden, and The Calling. I always thought this group did a good cover of that song: The original still kicks all ass though: |

My favorite bee gees song. Also love Samantha sang 'emotion'. Will also admit to having hall & Oates all over my playlists. Sara, family man, adult education, etc.

Dark days in American music. In retrospect I'm glad I was too busy to pay much attention.

It's going to be impossible to make the point with the crusty old geriatric crowd that music is about context. Sometimes it's played for effect.

I agree. Context is essential, especially as the backdrop for the music of the mid to Late 70s. Arab oil embargo, stagflation, Iranian hostage crisis, Carter Administration, national malaise, avacado green appliances and dark oak paneling, Ford Pinto. Chevy Vega. Even Doonsbury declared the 70s as the kidney stone of a decade - this too shall pass. Truly the nadir of the American Century and the music matched.

Stuff like that, Barry White and Issac Hayes was great "while you're loving" music.

When I mean music for effect, I play music that will make our customers happy. I call it high energy happy. No edgy, no grunge or hip hop. I had to really look for a clean version of Drake's "Going Home". Found a cover by Jason Chen. I also play Little Big Town, Tom Petty, The Producers, Selena Gomez, Eric Clapton, Waylon Jennings, A Taste of Honey, Leo Sayer, The Fray, and my favorite, Desinee Quinn singing "Cowboy Take Me Away".
It's a very ecclectic mix that I started with the Bee Gees, and then just kept adding. And no one questions it. They seem to have a good time. I'd say we got around 30K people coming to the place last October. |
