Spam TV's at the gas station!
![]() Volume turned way up. I can't tell you how annoying it was. Who thought that was a good idea? Isn't it bad enough we get constant advertising on TV or the Internet, You tube etc. AND the bowser was covered in grime but the TV was brand sparkling new! (Imagine the thought process of installing that TV and not cleaning up the bowser) So that's it. I'm going to write them an email telling them I'm boycotting their business because of the Spam TVs. The company that owns the gas station also owns the local super market. I'll also tell them I'm boycotting that as well. I'm just one idiot so they probably wont worry about it but at some point we have to say enough is enough. Why do we put up with this ****? Micro rant over... (I've been going to the same station for over ten years!)

I quit using one gas station because of them. I called the station's manager and told him he has forever lost me as a client as long as they have them. Across the street is a station selling 100% gas and no ads. And I will be buying my beer from the other station as well. Goodby!

Around here it is weather, sports, and "did you know... " stuff. Kinda handy, although I wish it was more localized (ie, local traffic warnings)

I think that the OP is needing anger management or safe spaces where there are no things that upset them. That said, I respect the decision to vote with your dollars. That is the quickest way to make a business listen.
What is annoying to me (I don't know that I've every wanted to rant about it though) is when I go to pump gas and the pump asks if I want to buy a soft drink or add the fuel cleaner: yes/no. I wonder how many people paid for a $2 soda or paid an extra 5-10 bucks for fuel additive because they thought they were saying "yes" to a receipt.

The way I see it. You're already at their business supporting them. Why annoy your customers?
It wouldn't be so bad if it the volume was at a reasonable level but your can hear the TV's clear across the forecourt.

When I first interacted with one of them, my first imression was the movie Total Recall. Then on to other post-acoptalpticaality movies with the screens babbling incessantly everywhere.

Do you still have full service gas stations? I haven't seen one in Aus for over 30 years!

Gassing up is allot like taking a piss. There's a solemnity to it that should not be violated. The ritual of fuel replenishment and the intimate and private nature of the act itself is, alas, going away.

Yes, the TV at the pump is annoying but I just ignore it (or wash my windows) much more annoying things in this world to worry about IMHO. He is in Oregon, there are no self serve gas stations there, IIRC they claim it is a safety issue but with 3/4 of the rest of the world pumping their own gas I don't see the point.

No, but it's illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon!

Well... it also sucks when a hottie pulls up for gas and and the horny young pump jockey ignores you while he flirts with the girly. Ask me how I know

There are screens directly in front of the urinals at some business Essex around here ( although it seems like that recently many of them have been moving towards static displays instead)

Mrs WD and I went to a movie in a theater today for the first time in years. There were phone company and bank commercials in between the previews. I've not seen that before. We went to lunch afterward and the restaurant had those iPad thingies on the table running, you guessed it, ads. I'm so tired of being bombarded with advertising.

And why I record so many programs (even news) on cable TV...to avoid commercials...the imposition of marketing.
