Getting the iPad Pro this week, suggestions for cradles?
I am getting the iPad Pro 12,9" this week and have not found a good cradle for it yet.
The only good solution was the Logi BASE https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HK2R2ZM/A/logi-base-charging-stand-with-smart-connector-for-ipad-pro?fnode=91&fs=f%3Ddock%26fh%3D4588%252B45e3 But that is not as nice as the old Apple cradle I had for our iPad 2: ![]() Any ideas? |

Logitech usually makes good stuff. This looks pretty good, but I don't actually have one myself.

Yes, that is the Logi BASE that I linked to above. That one is distributed be Apple themselves.

Bought an iPad Pro for the wife for her birthday.
Spectacular bit o kit. Wish there was a version that ran OSX instead of iOS. Has me looking at, gasp, Surface Pro's. I know, shocking coming from one of the resident mac fanatics but the Surface is a nice piece of hardware, I just never liked Windows as an OS. Trying to source an Asus Transformer 3 Tablet. All reviews indicate it's just as good as the surface plus it has Thunderbolt, HDMI. Seems they were pulled from the US market, can find them in Canada and UK but the 16gb models are elusive even in those markets.

I ordered the 128GB version, with cell and wifi (got the cell/wifi-version for the wifi-price).
We use the iPad a lot at home and I dont want a laptop in the living area. But I would like a cradle that can hold the iPad in upright Position, like the old one. The wifes parents have the Surface and they love it! |

Get the Pencil at some point if you or anyone in the house is artistically inclined. I'm looking for the ASUS with 16 gb of ram. My philosophy when it comes to devices with no user upgrade path is get it with as much as they offer / spend the max budget.

I think Apple is missing the boat by not offering a comparable product, large tablet running a full OS that also works in tablet mode. I'm tired of lugging around multiple devices. I need a full OS to work on the road but like the convenience of browsing and consuming media that tablets provide. The "Book" versions are laptops, not what I'm looking for and the price delta is not justified as there is no performance advantage but rather in my case a disadvantage due to the permanently hinged keyboard. In my case it's paying more for what I don't want. Actually ordered an i7 16gb Pro 4 from Amazon last night. Have a feeling I'll be returning it though. It's a Prime product sold by a third party fulfilled by Amazon. The seller has two listings for the same exact configuration. One that almost matches to the penny the refurb price from Microsoft direct and the other matches almost to the penny the new price from Microsoft direct. I actually called into Amazon, asked for a super to look into it because to me it looks like a refurb and I can not find any disclosure in the listing and they are claiming a price reduction using the new box as the non sale price. In short, the price says refurb but the presentation says new. She assured me the sale priced one is listed as new and not refurb. I said you can only tell me what your partner has entered as info. If they are lying how are you going to know? She agreed it was possible. Shows up tomorrow. If it's in a plain white box it's going back. Not because it's a refurb but because the partner lied and I don't do business with people who lie and who's to know what I actually got.

My main travel box had the high end GPU go south which requires a logic board replacement to the tune of $850. This was a late 2011 model, last of the 17 inch displays. Not worth the coin to fix it and I more than got my moneys worth out of it. I'm unhappy with the current line up, they abandoned the Pro user this time out. They said sorry and they are working on a new line for us but that could be a year or two down the road. Love my Macs but the bang for buck on the current line up is just not there for me. I don't use a laptop for work as much as I used to so if I'm going to drop $3k on a piece of hardware I better love it. The Surface is a stop gap temporary solution until Apple gets their poo together.

^ Same thing happened to my MBP with 17" retina display. Apple changed the logic board for free. It works, but still gives me the occasional beach ball of death. I started using a smaller MBP Air and so far, it's far more stable and a touch quicker.

The ball solder issue that plagues a lot of hardware from that time that runs hot, Xbox Red Ring of Death, Playstation 3 Yellow Light of Death etc... The problem was so pervasive they issued an extended repair program. It ended Dec 2016 or four years from date of purchase, whichever was longer. I had 2 of my others repaired under that program for free. My 17 went tits up March 9th. 8 days past the 4 year mark of original purchase date. They won't honor the warranty because the box is designated a 2011 model, even though it was sold new in 2013. That puts it in what they call their vintage category. Apple does not fix them anymore, you need to go to a third party. I'm a little annoyed at myself because I started noticing odd behavior occasionally but shrugged it off. Had I caught it then they would have had to warranty it. Have a friend who has the same box, asked me for RAM / HD upgrade recommendations. Told him not to spend a penny on it because it could go south at any time and he'd be SOL.

Oh man, that just sucks sweaty donkey balls.
I'll be showing up there more now with my little MBP Air like an emergency room hypochondriac. I'll have do start wearing disguises. |

All those boxes have 2 GPU's, a high end card, (AMD or nVidia) and a low end Intel card. The reason is battery life. By default the high end card runs but if you are on battery and not taxing the box it automagically switches to the low end card to save juice, also runs cooler. There is a utility that was developed specifically for this situation, gFXcardstatus. Let's you lock to either GPU. If you can get the box in the right heat, low power situation it'll boot to the low end card and run just fine except don't expect to use any demanding software. Then you lock to that GPU as the default using the utility. I can usually get them to boot low power after a few days of letting them sleep and heat up and run down the battery. No such luck so far with this one.
