Value of drafting table?
My dad learned to fly P-47's, finished flight school, got his orders fro Europe... then VE day happened... got his orders for the Pacific... the VJ day.
Long story short he got out of the Air force and they paid for an education and he went to drafting school. Graduated and got a job in aerospace, then in construction, then decided to become a contractor. As a contractor he bought several drafting tables and now we are having to get rid of them (wish I had room for this one but not can do). So going to run and ad, any suggestions on what price I should put on this? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TIA!

I have one almost identical. Think I paid $150-200.
Beautiful devices. But there are thousands in basements in every town. And the numbers of guys who still use them is dwindling rapidly.

Thanks for confirming, really wish I had room for it.
I posted it for $150 but willing to come down on the price. Anyone know what the plug is for, is it motorized in some way?

I "think" it makes the table rise.

Hey Scott....found this place selling Vemco products...might be useful to see their pricing:
Used Drafting Machines - Hopper's Drafting Furniture Much respect to your Dad...hate that you have to sell his drafting tables. Hopefully they will go to a good home. Wonder if there's a local vocational school that could use them?

I sold my 70's oak Mayline drafting table 2 years ago for $450 in OK condition. Bought it in 1977. I think they sell for more mainly because they can be used as a piece of 'furniture' by an artist or crafter. Mayline still sells the identical table for $3354
![]() https://www.mayline.com/product-detail.php?id=P1170 They also still make one very similar to OP's for $5590. https://www.mayline.com/product-detail.php?id=P1172 |

I agree that these are great for someone who can use one in a hobby setting.
Prerequisites: 1. Space suitable for a table of this size 2. Something big enough to haul it 3. Someone to help load and unload 4. The intestinal fortitude to keep a large surface WITHOUT piling "in process" projects or other valuable items such as old Porsche magazines onto said surface - thereby rendering the drafting table useless for intended purpose. 5. Most importantly - a spouse or significant other that agrees with said space utilization for said occasional hobby purposes. Therefore- "Free for the hauling" is probably the most compelling sales pitch you can use. Our company has finally pried most of these out of the offices where they used to reside as the "seasoned" folks retired. We kept them in racks for a while but I think finally scrapped them all. Good luck. |

Pity I'm not closer as I really would love something like this for CAD (Cardboard Aided Design, as in Project Binky!) templates when I do sheetmetal work.

And technically I won because it is worth something and I didn't have to give it away!
Sure, all drafting is now done on computer... but a large adjustable table is still useful to tactile artiste (model builders, seamstress, graphic artists, etc.).
