Really? OK, I believe you. I thought they were carbon fiber tubs made by Singer.

What, Wayner said, Ruf is now making a c/f air-cooled tub that they are using for the "new" yellowbird.

No. Poorly built ones do, but there is and has long been a strong market for quality built replicas. A roller 904 replica will set you back 50K. An Intermeccanica with a six - six figures.

The Cobra, 356, 550 and 904 replicas began to be reproduced at the time when those cars became very expensive and out of the range of most people. Arguably, the 550 and 904 were always out of the range of most people. Until recently, a long hood 911 in driver quality condition was still obtainable by the average Joe and Jane. Now that they are not, perhaps a replica will be made but likely with some other powertrain such as Subaru H6.

I think in time someone will build a credible 911 long hood replica but they're not really rare enough yet to make it financially viable.

Something at this level would be interesting to say the least. Imagine daily driving something like this :D (From Emory)

German copy write laws.

A replica impact bumper 911? Sorry but that's just sad.

Don't know if the laws are stricter in Germany then outside. It sounds like it is.

I just know there are loads of 356 roadster replicrappers in Europe and have been since long time. Chances of seeing a replica is 100 to 1 vs seeing an actual 356.

Must be a royal pain in the ass to the owner of a real one to constantly get asked 'Replica?'

R K T 05-09-2017 11:10 AM

I got asked all the time especially at gas stations "who built my speedster"? It would be irritating but I would tell people that Ferdinand built it. I would get a confused look because they were sure it was a replica and they thought Ferdinand was a new replica company! It was a genuine '55 Speedster.

But at the ridiculous prices that a real Speedster goes for today, (my '55 sold for 300K+ after I sold it to Nicolas Cage for 85K) I could easily enjoy a quality replica or tribute as I call them. Seduction Motorsports or Vintage Speedsters make a really nice car and now you can get a 130hp Outlaw Speedster with a Hardtop that looks amazing for mid 30s.
JPS makes an A Coupe that is nice but not up to the quality of the others.

I was looking at the MB McLaren thread and while the McLaren is nice if I had money to burn I would be ordering one of these!

Ferrari was successful in suing the 365 replica companies as well. But, here in WI you can build your own from scratch and as long as it has the requisite headlights, taillights and so forth you can register it as a hobbyist car.

Shelby could have stopped all the Cobra replicas as well but took too long to do anything about it.
