20 plus years of shooting 1911s they work for me. I do own a glock 19 but I don't like the lack of safety

you get used to it (not having safety). I prefer it that way nowadays, but I see what you are saying.

They have two safeties aside from the inherent very safe design of a striker gun. There's a firing pin block and a trigger safety. That said, I just saw a video on Facebook this morning by a guy who had put a Zev trigger in his Glock 17 that discharged a round when the gun fell off his bed's headboard. It only put a hole in his ceiling, but he was able to recreate the problem with the gun unloaded and made a video of it. Stock Glock triggers SUCK, but those guns are very safe. That's not to say they're not unforgiving of people who don't follow the basic gun safety rules. But I've dropped mine (loaded) on the garage floor at least twice, it landed square on the back of the slide and nothing happened.

I am a 3rd degree blackbelt with 20+ years as a certified insructor. I would use my hand to hand skills if possible but somtimes the bad guys don't play fair and having a weapon at hand can/could save your life!

I agree with Glock triggers. One thing I hate about my G19. Also the stock sights suck. I don't even know why I bought it. Oh wait, yes I decided to use a Trijicon RMR and light. The only way I would consider doing a trigger mod, is perhaps a G17 trigger.

You are 100% correct with safety mechanisms with the striker fire guns.

Check out the $.25 trigger mod on Youtube. You can polish the trigger bar yourself and make a big improvement. I'd be wary of dropping an aftermarket trigger in there. Glocks are 2x4s. They grow on trees and go bang every time, but they're nothing special in the looks or comfort departments.

1911s are the kind of gun you keep forever and pass down to heirs.

Very nice, kind of pricey, but nice. I think that's very similar to the Sig P938. Basically a small single stack 9mm 1911-like gun.

I like how some of the competition (like the SA XDm) has the trigger safety AND a grip safety. I've seen photos of a guy with a leather holster that caught his trigger and put a round through the bottom of his car. I think something about the seatbelt tugging the gun out of his holster a little, then him trying to shove it back down into the holster.

Right, I am picking up my FN509 this Friday, and more than likely G19 is a goner.

I saw that. He was a total idiot, using the most worn-out, cheapo holster and not being aware of his gun and trigger cover. No sympathy at all. He shouldn't own a gun. I've never come close to having that problem and I carry every day, often in extreme heat that softens up the leather.

Agreed. I suspect there are LOTS of folks like that out there.

I like the IWB holsters that have leather backing and kydex for the formed side, but then I've never tried one that was all leather either.

Yes, not cheap but well made. Had a P938, it's much smaller, sold it. Here in California we are stuck with sub 11round mags. Glocks are nice but thick, the EMP is 9+1 if I carried the G19 it's thicker as well as its spare mag.

I don't have a Glock, but "I hear" that most of the striker type pistols (Keltec) can be improved with polishing the trigger bar and other components. Might have even seen it, in person.

I like 1911/JMB type pistols. I prefer metal to plastic, but better to have "something" than nothing...

I really really like my Ceracoated 1903 in .380ACP, w/FMJ rounds. 4" barrel really helps the .380ACP.

Ruger LC9S ....an awesome little thing! Sweet trigger out of the box, and I've been bad mouthing 9mm for decades :)...

I like my Colts, S&Ws, etc. but this is a disposable spoon that serves it's purpose and has no sentimental value....
