Are you still playing "catch"

Just wondering. Do any of you retired guys/gals still have a good game of "catch"?

I know we all reach an age where we are too old to actually play ball but I've always felt the joy of playing "catch" is more physically beneficial than one might think.

Once your arm/shoulder/elbow is well warmed up and you are able to really drift that ball to your partner and catch it with a nice "snap" in the glove, that after 30 min or so you really get a nice upper body work -out.

What are your thoughts?
Hugh

I to think its a good workout. But I have not played in years. Son moved out and grand son only here from time to time. When he's here he likes to fish.
We do throw the football once in a while.
Now that I think about it I think my glove was thrown out after Katrina.

I play catch with my neighbor's dog Stella all the time.

I had to start out punting the football at first as my arm was out of shape. Went to underhand for a while, and now throwing overhand.

It's hard on your rotator cup I think, real easy to throw your arm out if you have not done it in a while.

Be careful, and play safe.

Baseball was my son's sport and catch was our way of hanging out for several years. I'd also take buckets of balls and pitch to him. I still have my glove. He lives half the country away otherwise I'm sure we'd still be at it.

This dog catches the child sized football mid-air, out runs my throw.

I call that playing catch.

Love it when my son says 'dad can we throw?' Gonna miss it when he's older. I throw bp to him a lot as well. Good time spent together.

Last time I played catch with my son he was at third base and I was at first. His ball had so much movement on it I had a hard time catching it.
He had a rotator problem after college ball, so he doesn't throw any more unfortunately. I'd love to play catch with him again. He now has a nice 'long' backyard that would be perfect for it.
I had a lot of fun watching him pitch in college for the late Tony Gwynn down at SDSU. As I look back now, his being drafted by the Angel's out of high school was one of the true highlights of my life.

My neighbor and I played last week. It had been a few years since the last softball league and my shoulder felt like roots had grown into it at first.

Few things as relaxing as the rhythmic pop of the glove, no conversation needed.

My dad and I played catch in backyard. I wish there was one more chance to do so.

My glove and ball are always in the car, never know when a catch can come along.[/QUOTE]

I think that's the secret, to always have your glove (and ball) in your vehicle so that you are ready if and when the opportunity presents itself. In fact I still have an extra Rt hand glove AND a Lf hand glove so that no one has an excuse to not want to give it a try.
It really is surprising how difficult it is to find used gloves for sale. Nobody seems to want to give them up once they are well broken in. At one time I had a little collection and even picked one or two up on Ebay.
New gloves can be expensive but they do occasionally come up on sale.
Having taken my gloves with me on a trip to Cuba I realized how fortunate we are where the Cubans have to share gloves to play a game. But they love it, so I left gloves with them. Much appreciated.

Who knows, you might be at the cottage/summer place. or at a car show or any place where some like minded person might be looking for a bit of physical activity.

I totally agree on the possibility of damaging the rotator cup and for that reason I've always started off real slow after being away from it for a while, even to the point of not getting any more than 15 or 20ft apart at the beginning.

But it is surprising how much fun and how much of an upper body work-out you can get once you're into it.

My problem is finding a like minded person nearby that wants to do it on a regular basis.
Gee, I might have to take up tennis instead.

My son is 21 and we still play catch almost everyday. The only thing that stops us is the weather.

When he was little & for no particular reason he started throwing lemons that had fallen on the ground to me.
I went out and bought two gloves & a baseball and that was the begging. Funny thing though he never wanted to pay on a team.

I played little league for a couple of years. I could throw and catch with the best of them (in fact I played catcher because I was one of the only ones on the team who could make the throw to 2nd base from home plate, with accuracy), but was not the best hitter. So playing catch boils the game down into the part I like the most.

I do it almost every week. My son is in high school and baseball is is favorite sport. Not only do we play catch but I have to keep my pitching arm in shape. I think he likes hitting the ball more than catching it. He can hit my fastball and curve ball but not the slider.
