Edd China leaving Wheeler Dealers
Discovery Channel has taken over production of Wheeler Dealers from Atta Boy productions (original British producers) after 14 seasons. The show is at the height of its worldwide popularity and is purportedly the biggest show of its type....ever.
According to a You-Tube announcement from Edd China the split is amicable. Discovery finds the detail and difficulty of Ed's fix-it shop scenes too time consuming and onerous and wished to eliminate them from the show. Edd felt that this was the backbone of the show and thinks their elimination would compromise the integrity of the show.....I agree. Mike Brewer will continue with an Edd look-alike named Ant. Can't make that up. Edd says that Mike has been getting hate mail/phone calls at his home including death threats. He pleads with people to stop this idiocy. Edd wishes them luck and stresses that his horizons have been opened and we may get two great shows because he plans a YouTube show to which I have already subscribed. Hate to see a great show break down, especially at its peak, maybe Mike and Ant will be great and Edd creates a wonderful show of his own ![]()

Ed China is the show, leave it to discovery to ruin the last show with any type of reality in it.

I watched the interview, and it appears that Edd has no desire to cowtow to the sponsors, and hawk products on the TV show rather like all the other Discovery channel auto show......just rolling commercials.

Ant Anstead has bounced around UK car centered shows for many years.
One recently that US audiences would have seen was Building Cars hosted by James May of Top Gear. It was a pretty good show for the most part. BTW, this was discussed on the 911 Tech Forum several months back. I will miss Edd. I like Mike but Edd was the business on fixing cars.

There was already a thread on this several weeks back....Sad to see Edd go, it sounds like the new direction of the show will stink. The best part is watching Edd work and that's what they plan to eliminate from the show.

When you read into this decision it appears Velocity thinks filming Edd is too complicated to do. Ironic that the little filming agency "AttaBoy" handled this like pro's for years while a giant with the resources of Velocity feels it's too complicated.

There is a new car show, "Speed is the New Black" which is a really stupid name. I have watched the two episodes and if episode three is not a lot better I will be a former watcher. They did a 911 C2 on the last show. Changed the intake and exhaust and DME chip and claimed 50 HP increase.

On one Wheeler Dealers episode, Edd proved that theory wrong. After both he took the subject car to a dyno and was surprised. The tech told him that doing those things doesn't always work as intended and they must be matched then tuned in.

Can't please everyone. I like Speed is the new black. They seem to be a bit more practical than some of the other shows.
The Saturday morning shows I think are the worse (excluding Cars and Caffeine). Those are all ads. I do like Jared and Lou though, just not the product pushing but I guess it pays the bills. OP : I will miss Ed. Learned a lot from him. Too bad. |

Old news but a reminder of things to come.
If you want to see what Wheeler Dealers is like without Edd watch a couple of episodes of "Wheeler Dealers Trading Up" I think it's called. Mike starts off with X amount of cash and sells and buys cars across the globe with the goal of buying a super car. It starts off in India. My favorite episode of Wheeler Dealers is when Mike goes to buy parts and asks the guys how much? The guys says "$200" and Mike says "How much for cash?" and the Guy answers "$200" ![]()
