Sportser heat shield on rear pipe

Dad has a 2000 Sportster and when he wears his rain suit the rear pipe melts the leg of the rain suit. They are Cycle Craft (we think, came with the bike) 2" tubes.

Any idea on how to add a heat shield on the rear pipe that would still look decent?

We did a search, including eBay, but he likes the sound of the pipes since they aren't loud like a lot of others. Even stopped in at JP Cycles and they had nothing that would fit correctly because of how the pipes bend.

JP Cycles Heat Shields

They might be Cycle Shack brand pipes.

Yep, shorties look like your best bet, unless you can trim a larger shield down.

These look a lot like the pipes in your picture.

Is there any way to modify the rain suit leg so it doesn't make contact ?

Burned my leg (wearing shorts) in a few spots on my Royal Enfield Continental GT so I made this out of an aluminum sheet.
Drilled holes, rounded it, then lined with heat shield on the inside. Left a tab on the lower inside, drilled a hole through the tab to attach to frame bolt.
All I have for you. Good luck.

Consider using header wrap under the heat shields. I've seen significant temp drops on my bikes under the heat shields.

Good idea. At least just under the heat shield.
I may try that if my home-brewed shield is still too hot.

Or stop wearing shorts.

Good thought on the wrap. I have used them on the Cobra headers and have touched them while it was running and while it was hot, it did not burn the skin like the collectors when I hit my shin cleaning the windshield. They can be hard on the pipes though.

Will also tell him about the other brand rain suit.

The pipes are similar to the last picture up there.

Thought about doing something like Don has as well.

Funny, most of the riding gear out there does not take into account the position of the exhaust on Harleys. One is almost forced to go to H-D branded "Motorclothes" to avoid this issue (too many skulls, flames, eagles, flaming eagle skulls, etc. for my taste, though). I've certainly fried many a pant leg over the years.

My solution, short of buying "Motorclothes", is to sew a big thick leather patch onto my left pants leg where it gets close to the pipe. I've done this on several sets of riding pants with great satisfaction. I have a local sewing shop do it. That way I ride in quality gear that is "Harley proof".
