The Unsettler
|
On the glass wall to my office was an 8.5x11 piece of paper with what looked like those stick on reinforcements for the holes in paper used in ring binders.
Written on it was Nothing Is Insignificant. In one of my studios I had several large format printers. The Epson 6 footer had a take up roll for long runs. It never worked reliably. One day the HP service guy was in looking at one of my smaller units and we were discussing what I liked about each brand. I mentioned the annoying take up roll. He bends down, reaches for the sensor that detects paper hanging in front of it and peels off a little donut sticker stuck to the lens. wrrrr wrrrr, the thing starts working immediately. He says those sensors are hyper sensitive and they found in well lit environments they would get flooded with light and not work so the factory shipped units with the stickers to choke out some light. Since we kept our studios dark there was not enough light for the sensor to work with. $15,000 piece of equipment hobbled by a $0.000001 sticker. Nothing is insignificant. I still have that sign.

I think this is a Ben Franklin quote, but I first saw it on the Performance Developments (Neil Harvey) website when I was shopping around for a shop to handle the machine work on my 930 engine.

When using a ratchet wrench, make sure there is enough room for the bolt or nut to come completely off with the wrench attached.

LOL- and it's always in a tight location that took 30 minutes just to fit it in there and smash your knuckles only to realize it is now jammed in place!

When going into an unknown area - look for Youtubes first.
