Uh, dealer says my 10mm wheel spacers are causing my TPMS malfunction!

I really can't see spacers causing this problem. Spacers have been on the car since I got it, or for 6000 miles with no problems whatsoever. These are Turner Motorsport BMW spacers so there should not be any issues.

Spacers have nothing to do with it your dealer is an idiot. Disconnect the crap and monitor the pressure yourself. Any indie can do it for you. I've done it on the P car myself but I have the SW and the bypass instructions.

The wife's car had a TPMS last year - don't remember the exact cause. I took it to the dealer (stealer?) who wanted $100 just to look at the car. The sensors were an exorbitant price. Took it to an indi shop that wanted $114/wheel to fix it. Then I decided to take it to Discount Tire where the tires came from. They fixed it for free in about an hour.

I just bought a Bentley manual for my girlfriend's 328i. I cracked it open during lunch, and noticed that TPMS, and traction control, abs, etc all connect via a CAN bus to a dme type unit. I wonder if it makes sense to use a BMW specific PC scanner to troubleshoot and test the TPMS brain? If not, then I wonder if it can be sent in to a specialist for a bench test.

I'm glad I don't have the BMW anymore, was starting to get to know the people at the stealership on a first name basis.

If the dealer is an actual BMW ( as in new) they have the factory scan tool. Doesn't mean the tech is using it properly............
|
I kinda suspect the dealers scan tool is suspect.
It showed bad wheel sensor, they replaced it, problem still there, now they want to replace another wheel sensor! I get accurate tire pressure readings, the TPMS system just resets itself every 30 minutes/miles |
I would tell them - when you know exactly what the problem is and then fix it, call me. Until then you've already spent your money and time, the issue remains.

Update..
Took car to Classic BMW. Plano Tx Unbelievable dealership! 5 star service for sure. I got a 320i loner which was nice. The TPMS malfunction issue was a combination of the EDC module and a software upgrade. Car now good as new ! Classic BMW impressed me to make them my dealer, yes, they are 5 and 1/2 hours away but I was impressed! |
