Do you have kids? Would the beetle be treasured by them? If so, keep it.

Otherwise buy the spider and have fun.

That is a good point.

My daughter is still upset at me for selling my '68 Buick Sport Wagon, she loved that thing......

Great story, Gorgeous car! more photos please.

at the time the cable brakes matched the horsepower. :D
One way to adjust cable brakes.
Cover your driveway with (preferably German) newspapers.
Roll your Split over the papers and hit the brakes.
Loosen the cable to brake that is the first to tear paper. :)

I have two daughters. The 16 year old is embarrassed by the bug. They both love the spyder.

BTW, all you guys who say, "Keep the beetle", buy mine and then keep it.;)

It's a deluxe. Hydraulic brakes. Nothing but luxury.

Amen to that!

Sure the VW will hold or go up in value but there is more to life than money.

Exactly.

Besides, the bug has gone up in value very slowly. My dad bough it in 1985 for $10K. If I'm lucky I can get 4X that, 32 years later. Meanwhile, I bought my 1970 911E in 2002 for $6K. Now it's worth $100K or more. Too bad I sold it in 2012 for $20K.

I definitely would if I had the ducketts...

I'd rather have a split beaver

KNS 06-15-2017 07:22 PM

Buy/keep the one you think you're actually going to drive and use. If you're driving around in the Beetle worrying someone will rear-end you and destroy its value - sell it.

Same guy was going to sell after his scared the heck out of him... but I still see him driving it around so he changed his mind.

This is true (for me anyway). I spun mine the first time I drove it. It went around fast and without the suspected warning. I was a bit too heavy on the throttle on a curvy mountain road. It certainly woke me up. I drive it with more respect now.

How about sell the split and get each of the girls a Beck with the proceeds?

I know this is hypocritical because I would love to have a Beck.

But I would not put someone I love in a Beck... I presume they are not very crash worthy nor are they very practical.

My wife loves old air cooled beetles but I won't get her one for those reasons.

Splits aren't worth that much, unfortunately.

If it was a 1950 bus in that condition, you could buy everyone in your family their own Beck!

If I had the cash right now, I'd buy it, but I spent my Toy Fund on the 356.

Jeff Alton 06-16-2017 06:09 PM

Lovely car, Can't go wrong keeping it, can't go wrong getting the Beck if you will use and enjoy it...

porsche4life 06-16-2017 06:29 PM

That looks like a good car to send to one of the big auctions. Get the right two guys in the room and it'll bring a wad.

wdfifteen 06-16-2017 07:24 PM

Sweet car, but too nice for me. I already have too many cars that are too nice to drive. I'd like a '67 Beetle that I can leave outside and drive in the snow - if I was getting another car.

The best year, IMO. Last year of the old style (better looking) bumpers and a 1,500 cc eng.

SpyderMike 06-17-2017 04:09 PM

I've got a 66 I am selling soon. Not as nice as his. Just don't drive it enough. Great car though.
