Anyone have one of these?
I've had it for a bit never wore it but thought it would be cool to have. It's from 1982 I believe.

This thread has been done a number of times, including one very recently and another on the weird Porsche Design tower in Miami. That particular watch is pretty cool, although I think the Omega Speedmaster that it rips off is better in the original than the Porsche interpretation. However, I wouldn't kick that watch out of bed for eating crackers. Most Porsche Design watches really seem "meh" to me - very much Eurotrashy over the top in a 930 slantnose late 1970s Steven Weed sort of vibe. But that version is quite nice.

Very nice!...but I'd not trade any of mine for it.

Yes, that model is as much of understated elegance as Porsche Design could muster. Maybe because it was a postmodern Germanic interpretation of the Swiss classic. Don't know. I like that model. Don't like most of Porsche Design's stuff.

Yes I have more or less the exact same one, I think mine is the slightly earlier variant. yours is in amazing shape.
My mother gave it to my father in the late 70s I think.

That was their first attempt at a watch. It's nice looking but not all that exceptional in quality. The band is an obvious example of that. It came in two finishes and there was a women's version, as well. Their next offering, made by IWC, was a much higher quality piece and more comfortable to wear, if maybe a little less attractive if you were a fan of an Omega Speedmaster, or similar watches.
I still have a women's version of that watch, should anybody want to give one to their wife. It's in the other finish ("titanium," although there's no titanium in it) and hasn't been worn in 20 years, so it will need a full service before it will even run. JR |
