				Best tow vehicle for ~3.5k?

I need a beater truck/SUV to tow my Spec Miata (~2200lbs) on a simple open trailer. I'm thinking a mid-seventies Chebby (or other) truck with a solid V8 and sound transmission and brakes. As the costs of my fledgling racing carreer are spiraling out of control, I don't want to spend more than $3500. Doable? Any suggestions? Is 4x4 preferred? Thanks.

For that kinda money, any Chevy 1500 or Ford 150 series pickup truck you buy may do the job, but said truck may also give you lots of troubles! Your best bet is to save up a little more $$ and find a truck in the $5000.00 to $6000.00 range. I've been considering much the same as you, and have found that cargo vans seem to be going for less than SUV's and fancy pickup trucks. You may want to try that avenue as well. -Z.

| What?!?! |
I saw a REALLY nice Dodge short bed a while back. The interior was very nice and showed very little wear. Overall, the truck looked great and they wanted 5k. I thought it appeared to be a good deal for a good truck. Kick in the extra 1500 as Z-man says and look at trucks in the 3500-6000 range. 4500 in cash looks good when dude is asking 5200. Look at lots of trucks and get a feel for what fits you, then look for that particular model. I know it takes time but you'll feel much better later. The only thing I ask in that you post pics here. Good luck!
