looks bloated like most other newer pickups
why they need to be so big I do not get
esp in a so called compact-midsized truck

would love to swap in a 300+ hp v6 into my old ranger
I guess that had about 140hp stock with a 3.0

I have the 3.0 V6 in my Ranger. 140hp sounds about right...durable engine, but it gets less than 20mpg with a 5speed trans.
Newer engines=more power and better mileage.

I like the stance of the one in the spy shot.

When/if they get here, I might take a peek. If it's the size of a mid 70's full sized pickup, it might work.

That's my guess. The new full-size pickups are enormous compared to what used to be considered a full size. I can only imagine that what they'd call a Ranger these days is probably what used to be a full-size.

Just imagine, if Subaru came back out with a Brat (or what was that VW that was like a Rabbit pickup?), it would probably be the size of the old Ranger. Hahahaha.

140hp and V-6 torque? Wow, you guys are livin' the high life. I had an '88 Ranger with a 2.0L 4cyl. putting out a earth rumblin' 80hp. At 75mph in 5th gear on the freeway, if you hit a gust of wind, you had to downshift to keep your speed up.

Hopefully the new ranger isn't as bloated as the Chevy Colorado. Damn thing is nearly as big as a full size and costs nearly as much!

Everything in the industry is getting bigger:

New Civic is the old Accord
New Corolla is the old Camry

After a 40 year history of Jap import pickups, I recently bought a 2015 Tundra......The 4.6 gets better mileage than my recent '04 Mazda 4.0/4wd/5speed....

Looks the same size as the previous gen F150 before they made it the size of the F350.

I agree on the bloated "small pickups". My Dad has a GMC Canyon and it's only 2 inches shorter than my Silverado. The whole reason Ford got rid of the Ranger is because it was detracting from F-150 sales. Now they are bringing back the Ranger, but bigger and closer to the size of an F-150. That makes no sense.

I do know that GM makes tons of dough selling the Colorado/Canyon to governments and as well as overseas. In my town they make up almost all the municipal work vehicles for parks and utilities. Ford probably sees that they are missing out on those sales.

Yep, that is no compact truck.

When I park my 1998 Chevy S-10 next to just about anything these days it's dwarfed, even by most cars.

Two days ago I saw street testing of a full sized truck with large sheets of draped gray material on it (not the typical skin tight camo), not sure of the make. You think they look large normally until you see one in a fat lady's dress.

If I was in the market, the ZR2 would be at the top of the list. Looks like pretty awesome shock technology:

chevy has really come a long way in the mid size truck market. the minute you read 'front locker' you know they are getting serious about it. that front bumper design is smart too.

It's good to see them providing some actual content, as opposed to lamo Silverado appearance packages like "midnight".

if anything happens to my current 2006 4x4 Tacoma..my head will explode trying to decide between the Duramax ZR2 or the new version of the Tacoma. my friend just isnt getting the great MPG from his 2017 tacoma.

i "built" a virtual Duramax and it was $49k..

i seriously hope my 06 goes on forever.

I've read bad things about current taco motors. no details but I'd at least research the subject before jumping into a new taco.

I personally would check out the gas ZR2. probably be a lot cheaper and somewhat easier to find on dealer lots.

true.

but..i was in phoenix pumping gas when the guy next to me started fist pumping the air and telling his wife.."we just got 31 mpg!" she was clearly not as impressed as he was. i took a look and it was a new duramax canyon. it was not labeled a ZR2 but it was damn fine looking. big tires, jet black all around..as if Darth Vader specd out his midsized dream truck. i had just come out of the desert and some quick math told me i just scored a whopping 17 mpg.. the guy let me sit in his truck. his wife was nice..it is a great truck. nice interior. made me feel like mine was a work truck for the entire drive to CA.

i definitely put a mental placeholder for that truck into my mind. it's been tough to shake.

i think diesel is about to get expensive her in CA soon tho. it is what it is.

i'm gonna hug my 06 and change the oil today. that thing is unstoppable.
