I admire you folks that love to get out there. My idea of roughing it:

I have an avid, 'ultralight' backpacker friend whose pack and contents, except for consumables (water, food, fuel) weighs eight pounds. As in racing, pounds are made of ounces. Ounces are made of grams.

I carry one of these whenever I am out of cell coverage. About the size of a cell phone and twice as thick. Made for hikers.

I carried 60 lbs up and over Kearsarge pass on a 2 week in the Sierras, and 55 lbs down the Grand Canyon. Never again, my knees still hurt. When I go now I pack light at around 30 lbs. If it weighs more than that I don't need it.

My pack was 35 lbs. my wife's 23. She kicked ass. Both of our packs could have been lighter ceot I had 3L water, wife had 2. We stayed close to water that we could have refilled. But t felt the river would be gushing and unsafe. I was right. I'm gonna buy her some lighter gear. Ditch her sleeping bag and buy a light quilt.

My friends packs were 15 and 12 lbs. they buy the lightest stuff. Super expensive. There shelter is a tent you need trekking poles to hole up. Cuban fiber and about 1 lb for the entire rig. I don't hike enough to justify the $

Oh caught my first cut throats trout!! We trapped crayfish for dinner.
