Beer. The regular kind
Coming out of the hotass forest. Sweaty, dusty, hot, we climbed into our sweltering truck. I did my best at the public hose bib thing at a camp site. Those young kids can't unsee that I'm sure. 😳
Any ways. Holiday traffic and google maps got me super close to Lake Tahoe. I made a beeline. I was stuck in traffic and did a quick turn into the hard rock casino. The bartender took one look at me and said, BEER? Uh...sure! Opted for the Silver Bullet. He pulled out a frozen glass and filled it with the coldest beer I've ever felt. A sheet of slush slid off the side of the glass and soaked my bar napkin. It was profound how great it was. Living in the land of the micro brews. I forget about the big players in the beer world. |
So true...brings back memories.
Was in the Yosemite Valley a hundred years ago...stopped into a valley lounge and discovered ice cold Andeker beer. |
If you are really hot and thirsty, even an ice cold ODouls will seem pretty great.
|
A good draft beer in a frosted hug with a couple of pickled eggs can't be beat on a really hot day.
|
PBR for the hot days, "lawn mower beer".
|
The Silver bullet is good on a hot day. So is a bottled water. Try Sierra Nevada BFD. Easy drinking with a little more kick.

If the drinker is not interested in trying to impress, it's a damn good and refreshing beer. I'm enjoying one now. |

After 20 years of pinkie-out microbrew, drinking and making my own, I still love some Coors! |

There are times when just regular old beer that tastes like water and is so cold that you can't taste it anyway are really good.
When I was younger, we settled on Natural Light in bottles (not cans). You could drink and drink and drink and it was cheap. I could also do Bud Light or Miller Light. I could not/did not do Busch or worst of all Bud. I don't know that we really ever had Coors Light. Maybe Heineken when someone was feeling extra flush with money. |

Coors lite is my flavored water in the yard too. I just picked up a 12 pack for less than a 6 pack of IPA's at the same time. Some guy in line with me commented about my eclectic taste in beer, I told him the Coors was to stay hydrated while doing yard work, the Six Point Resin IPA was for when I was done and could sit and enjoy. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...light-beer.jpg |
We used to drink Heilmann Special Export in high school. I think it was $3 for a 6 pack. Good stuff for us was Lowenbrau.

I know the hipsters have "discovered" Miller but that's seriously not a bad bottle of beer flavored water - after Coors of course... |

I was a CU for a brief grad school thing. Coors is nasty. Always was. Still is. Many many other standard American beers I would rather have.
Just my opinion. Sorry. |

I never got into Coors. If I drank it enough, I would have liked it. :D |

My reward for cutting the lawn. Ice cold and tasty lager. |
My hot, sweaty, dehydrated beer of choice is 50% Corona (or similar) 50% pink grapefruit juice. They call it a Radler and it comes in cans, but I just mix my own.
I wouldn't do that to a good beer, but its just Corona. |
I once knew a guy, an "acquaintance" who got on a kick where he would order a Guinness.
One. He'd pretend to drink it but almost never finished it. Why? because he was a phony snob. He didn't like the taste but thought (mistakenly) that it somehow made him cooler when he ordered something different. I know another guy who lives in south orange county (snob central). He got on that stella artois kick, believing it was french. I told him it was distributed by Anheuser-Busch and in Europe is often called "wife beater" beer, now he doesn't like it anymore. Rained on his parade. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1499269109.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1499269109.jpg |
Different beers are great at different times and in different situations. Hot day at the lake? Miller Lite with the screw on top is perfect, your beer floats right next to you.:) My beer fridge has everything from Michelob Ultra to Duvel, variety is the spice of life!

Argh, around here I'm surrounded by micro brewery outlets. 150 meters each way from my house. And I can't drink any of their beers. Around here they are of the mentality of more more more, so there are so much hops you can't drink it. Or if you ask for one not drowned in hops the yeast infection will take over. There is a factory beer that sells for a discount at the supermarket because it's not trendy anymore, and it's called Tui East India Pale Ale. Very nice and crisp and ordinary - tastes just like beer.

America's oldest brewery :)

It seems that Indian Pale Ales are all the rage and the hoards of beer drinkers out there are sucking down as much as everyone can produce. Way too much hops for me. I suppose if I were stuck in colonial India and that was all that was available, maybe I could get it down. But there are so many other choices out there that I do like. I tend to gravitate to the darker brews. My rule of thumb is it has to be darker going in than coming out.

We have a local microbrewer called Tin Man. I confess, I really like one they call Czar. At $10 for a 4 pack its just a bit more than I want to pay on a regular basis. Most times I just drink my ice beer.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

When I mow the yard I usually stand back and admire the pretty lawn with a ice cold Bud Light. If I have some weeds to kill with roundup or some other final chore, I will follow the Bud Light with a Fat Tire. Of course my favorite
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1499347022.jpg I save those for finishing up a valve adjustment or brake pad replacement. I figure I have to earn them as they are pricey. |

Founders Breakfast Stout, now that is a good Stout. Ten Fiddy another great stout. Don't get me started with the imperial stouts. I love me some 10% plus Stouts. I am with you on the Stella, never understood the fascination with it, I tried it, it is nothing special. |
When I was in West Baden (French Lick) at the round hotel at the bar in the lobby they had Guinness on tap, done right. Dang that was good. Done right, it is a great beer. If it is a little old or flat, nope.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1499348927.JPG That hotel is fantastic but that is another thread. |
For me it's Landshark. Light but not watered down tasting, with a hint of citrus and finishes clean. Its my lawnmower go to

I also tried some at the Guinness Storehouse as well. I was surprised, the Irish version is much mellower, creamier and has more of a chocolate taste to it. The day I got back home I went to the corner bar and had one and it was more bitter and less tasty, almost stale tasting. Yes, I agree with you, now that I have had the Irish version, I no longer want to drink the export crap. https://photos.smugmug.com/Ireland-2...5PdTSBk-X2.jpg |

Their description: "Springer is a light summertime ale with just enough hops to drown out the nagging voice in your head that says “mow the lawn.” Adjuncts? Yeah, we use ‘em! Enjoy this fruity treat while it lasts. Floral and flowery with a touch of grass." |

One of our local breweries makes a good lawnmower beer.
